Rear sway bar..quick discos?

My ThumperXJ Tows Horse trailers, car trailers, garbage trailers, boats, other vehicles,

Towing should add weight to the XJ but normally this weight is very low on the XJ and in the middle. This weight does not effect the XJ roll, much anyway
But put about 900 LB in the XJ and 2 to 300 on top and she rolls like a pig in mud. Then drag some 4280 LB anchor behind you and your looking for over sized sway bars. Well I did. Plus high rate springs and 4 shocks in the rear. I would not leave home without any of it.

I would be more worried about brakes then swaybars. Put 900lbs in a XJ and 300lbs more on top makes stopping scary. The trailer would help if it has brakes.

I have hauled about 600lb's on the roof and another 1000+ pounds inside. I thought it rode great, the sway wasn't that bad and braking sucked. It looked like a stock XJ on 31" tires. The brakes suck empty.

With ZJ upcountry front springs and a full length RE AAL I don't miss my rear swaybar. The handling is very balanced and it handles great. I run in fulltime 4wd and it drifts great on tight turns when I hammer on it. The handling is very neutral in hard corners.

If I put my rear swaybar back on I would need a larger front swaybar to balance it out. I already have the largest front stock swaybar there is I believe.

I have a '99 XJ and commonly load up to 200lbs on my Yakima Megawarrior cargobasket and have had no problems without my swaybar. I can't even notice a difference onroad to be honest. I even wheeled with this much weight still on my roof. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

I said that I sell them, I'm not a mechanic. While on the lot, my starched white dress shirts always got dirty while on my back, on the lot under any of the vehicles. Nice :flame: though ...............

Just b/c you're not a mechanic doesn't mean you shouldn't know basics. That is like a tv salesmen not being able to explain the differences between 720 and 1080 b/c he isn't a repairman.

Back to the OP: I've never missed my rear swaybar and I drive my Jeep like a sports car. Don't worry about disconnects for the rear, just ditch it.

Everybody go back to their own career choices and I'll get back on topic. Thanks for the Sway Bar info. I'll take it off this week end and hang my wet socks on it to dry from now on.

The common thought is that the stiffer lift springs compensate for the rear sway bar. I chucked mine when I lifted it and haven't noticed any negatives in the way it handles. I do drive a little more cautiously overall, being 9+" over stock with the lift + tires. If I still had the soft, wimpy stock leaves, I would have left it on. I'm sure the difference is noticeable then.

Its true, all Up-country equipped XJs came without rear sway bars. Removing the rear swaybar does significantly increase flex. Removing it wont have much (if any) effect on the on-road handling. I dont know of a company that makes rear discos for an XJ. If youve already lifted your Jeep and are running oversized tires, youve already modified it, its a little late to worry about any added liability, if that is your buds concern.
Well seeing how it's so true, where do yall want me to send mine to off my country XJ? ;) It currently sits under my work bench at work.

But like others said, just take it off. Your not gonna know the difference. No the front is whole different story. You don't want to take that one off I promise you.

UP-country...UP-country...UP-country...UP-country...
An Up Country package is different than the Country edition.

I'm sorry. Up Country XJ. I have just always called it a country XJ. The whole Up Country just sounded goofy to me. But mine would be better called " Old Man Edition" It's old man gold/tan color, with old man running boars and old man alloy wheels.

Your Country edition (ole man edition) is a trim package. The Up Country is the off road package which includes skids, trac loc, HD cooling, HD suspension, tow hooks AND no rear swaybar. You could have a Country with the Up Country package though. I think all the trim levels were available with the Up Country package.
