Rear Speaker Installation

i have a 88 xj and couple months ago i got a new cd player and new front speakers, and just turned the fade to the front speakers, my back speakers are blown and wanna replace them but dont wanna pay Circuit City $40 to install them again. and was wondering if i went and bought the speakers what all would i need to install them and for them to work and how long it would take to install them?
 
a screwdriver and some wire strippers. 20 minutes and some patience.
 
so i dont need any like new wires or anything? when i got front ones installed at circuit city, they charged me like 14.99 for the installation kit, and then 35.00 to install the speakers
 
I use to be a installer there at circut city they charged you for a harness to modify your factory harness to just plug and play the new speakers. you can buy thet part separate for much less about 7.50 from a smaller stereo shop and do the install yourself very easily. you can also spend about 3 bucks at autozone and get the terminal ends you need and do it that way if you can either A:figure out which wire is + ans hook them up propperly (or whats called in fase) or B: have someone tell you which one is +.

DO NOT install your new speakers out of fase you will ruin them quickly and they will sound like crap!
 
but if i was to go to like walmart, and buy some speakers to fit my jeep, it doesnt come with everything you need to install them? you cant just like rewire the new speakers and them screw them into place?

yea they come with everything you need to install them, i got some sony xplods from wal mart
 
decent speakers for back there they arnt a problem.

as for the wiring take your time and do it right, or find someone more experienced to help you so you dont end up redoing something that should have been done right the first time.

a lot of guys working at the shops will give you pointers if they know your trying to learn dont hesitate to take things apart and figure out what you need to ask.

Its been a while since I changed mine back there to the Infinity kappas I have I believe there are 2 wires on each speaker and one of the wires on each are the same color or same stripe color (damn im getting old Lucky if i remember my pants half the time) If you feel inventive find a 12volt battery from a drill that has the + marked and experemant with tryin to make the old speakers pop out. when they do you have the + on the right terminal

Cherokeekid88, here is what you do:

1. open up the panel and have a look at your stock speakers. Note the size and shape.
2. purchase replacement speakers in the same size and shape (you can go bigger, but unless you're all about the bling, the same size will do)
3. replace ONE speaker at a time and carefully note which tab is positive (+) and which tab is negative (-). Connect the new speakers to the same wires in the same locations as the old ones.
4. button everything back up and be pleased with yourself.

Wiring them out of phase will not destroy your speakers, but they will work in reverse, meaning the cone will move in and not out when a signal goes through it. They will still make a sound, but it will suck.

You can test positive and negative with a little 1.5v AA battery, it works just as well as a 12v battery.

Your pioneers are just fine. Maybe not the best, but good enough.

I just bought 2 sets of Xplodes - 5.25's from Wally World. They came with the wires to hook them up. Just soldered them on, phased correctly as was pointed out. You could use inline connectors I guess.
 
ok now i think i understand everything, should be pretty easy. now i have pioneers int he front, can i get sony xplods for the rear? does it matter? and took my panel off and looked at my rear speakers, and my rear ones are like wired together, they are connected by a connector and it just pulls out. is that right? so when i get my new ones, id just take the existing wires and ground them into the new speakers?

You can get the xplods, but the general consensus amongst those in the know is that they are not good enough for the money. I'm not in the know enough to recommend something that would be better, its just that I've heard several times in different places that their value is poor. Yes to your wiring question. Just do it the same as they already are.
 
ok went this morning up to walmart and got me some new speaker for the rear. and i installed them about 30 min ago, but they sound a lil fuzzy or like the music is in the background sorta. the speakers i got are a brand called Roadmaster, but i noticed that the cone around the speaker felt ALOT stronger than the one that were on my Pioneers, but anyway, i took my facctory wires and cut the connector off and stripped the wires and wired it to the new speakers, not sure if i put the right wire in the right slot ( positive, negative) but i switched them around but heard no difference. was wondering if i installed them right or what.
