Rear Shock Mounts

I have a few sets out there. right now. But I am trying to work with a fab shop to do all the prep work for me without affecting cost.
to little to do and too much time... er um the other way around...
If your desperate for it them PM me and I will see what I can do. in fact, I am going to pick up steel tomorrow...

I just drilled the bolt out and ran a new bolt in from the bottom. There was enough room to slide a nut in at the top and tighten the whole thing down. My XJ is an 85. Maybe there isn't enough room on the newer models, but it was a snap on the 85.

you mean,

bend over and smile like a doughnut?:moon:

I allready know about the cost of steel. Thats why there isn't a set price as of yet. but I don't think it will be out of hand.:gee:

I too, fought this losing battle with the infamous rusted then broken bolts. Do yourself a favor and fab your own upper shock mounts with some good quality 1/8" or 3/16" steel. I did this to my XJ and no longer have to worry about snapping bolts off in the body. It also allows you to run standard eye type shocks as well.

We just had a discussion on rear shock mounts a few days ago, and info about running a new shock crossmember, including the negatives of shocks mounted at a greater angle. Good info........here's the thread:

i also lost. ended up braking a snap on easyout off in one of my bolts. after trying the stud method and everything else I ended up with a chewed up mess of a bolt whole so I welding the rear swaybar brackets in there place workes great and it gives a couple inches more travel

Doing that would move the mount lower, resulting in less travel, not more. Did you somehow recess them into the crossmember?

They fit up and inboard. yes you lose some of the damping abilities of the shocks, so going with a heavier shock helps. it will also allow for a dual shock setup. I make it standard with a 2" bump stop extension but I can easily double that. its also designed to raise the lower shock mounts and move them outboard. welding is required for the lower shock mounts and drilling is required on the frame. the center portion is removable and the exhaust must me modified or cut and turned down.

No what I ment was my shocks are for a 4" lift and after I put on my dakota rear leafs when I jack the back of my jeep up from the bumper the tires would come off the ground because the shocks top out. now they have the leight they need and I still hit the bump stop befor they bottom out.

Even though mine came out when I did my lift(Used lots of PB there!!!) I still used the swaybar mounts. BTW they are called BPE's by people who sell them for too much $$. Rock solid and I'll never have to worry. ALSO they move your shock down about an inch which does lots of helpful things when you decide to add some more lift later!! I did a BB and the shocks are for 0-3" of lift. With the BPE's I can go to 4" and not cause any problems. Hmmm- school is out in a few days maybe the jeep needs to get taller!
