Rear Driveshaft Frustration

Hi All,

So I have been searching for the better park of a week and I am pulling what's left of my hair out. I have a 1993 Cherokee 4 door 4.0 ax15 with the Chrysler 8.25. I am needing a new rear driveshaft and I can't find any that are available online. I know the manuals are going to be an inch longer than the AW4 models but I haven't found any that are available to match my sh1tbox. I have a quote from a local driveshaft shop for a new driveshaft at $540.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Have you asked your local driveshaft shop about re-tubing a driveshaft? Or is it $540 to do that?

Located in San Jose, CA. That $540 was for an entirely new driveshaft. The driveshaft we took out appears to have had quite a few unfortunate meetings with rocks and was really beat up and gouged.

Tom Woods is $355 for a new driveshaft. You tell them the exact length and they send it to your front door with free shipping. Not exactly cheap...but way better than your local shop.

Unless the ends have been ground to death on the rocks a re-tube will probably take care of you. My experience is that driveshafts take the most beating in the middle (i.e. the tube).

Even if it is a candidate for a re-tube you should measure as if ordering a new driveshaft. Unless your XJ has been restored to perfect stock condition odds are your length could be optimized with accurate measurement.
