Rear bumper

I've been going through the archived threads on spare tire carriers and it's kinda slim pickins. I like the look of the Durango 4x4 but I'm not sure if I can get one. Need to call and see if their waiting list is still a mile long. The Custom 4x4 seems OK but I'm not really wild about the latch and the square tubing (I know that's picky). The only one I really like is Poison Spyders. The only bad thing I heard on them is price. There was one other one I liked but I've been trying to get in touch with the company for months and can't. I think I've heard something negative about the others that pop up on here. I can't believe it looks like I'm gonna shell out 1226 for a bumper.

Through all of that rambling all I could make out was "Rear Bumper" and something about "Durango". Are you lost?

Check out:
Detour Slimline
C-Rok
AJ's
Rigidco.

If you are not lost? DO A SEARCH. Tons of stuff out ther under the word "BUMPER". Sorry, just got out of the Den.

The poison spyder bumper is awesome, but thier is no way I could pay that much money for a bumper. That's almost 1/4 the cost of the Jeep.

JCRoffroad makes a rear w/carrier. I have the stage four front and love it. I plan on getting the rear when the ole' paycheck allows.

will
99' 3'' 31's and goodies

I'm not so sure I'm the one that's lost. Did you have trouble with that first sentence. There are thousands of threads dealing with bumpers. I spent hours looking at them tonight and looking at the manufacturers sites. Durango supposedly has a huge waiting list. I'm not crazy about Rigids design or latch. Poison is crazy expensive. AJ's. Good luck on that one. Guy makes an amazing product from what it looks like but finding out prices, availability, etc is impossible. Thanks for the suggestion though. I was just frustrated after searching that long and coming up with only a few nice options that fit what I want.

you do realize he has a message board. you can ask him all the questions you want on his site. he's always been good at answering any and all of my questions.

I do realize that...I have not had good luck. I know he's a one man operation and works his butt off but I am looking to buy rock rails and a tire carrier bumper. When I can't get questions answered after a few months...I gotta think that my business is not wanted and find a place where it is. My timeline is not even the issue. It's so cold here right now I don't even wanna fill the tank let alone paint/install that crap. However, I do want to find a serious option b/c I know that build time will probably be an issue. I HATE to spend 1200 at Poison Spyder but their website is accurate/up to date and they appear so far to have things together. That may very well be worth the extra cost. There's other players in the game that either aren't returning phone calls or providing info. we all would need to part with a lot of coin like this. That was kind of my point initially. The reason I started this thread was b/c I was only seeing a handful of bumpers that NAXJA members typically have on their rig. I knew there had to be others out there, even individuals, that made good product. I got one PM from a guy that has the ability to fab stuff and appears to make some sweet stuff. That gets my attention more than an established business that can't/doesn't provide those things.
That's all I got.

i have a Durango rear w/tire carrier. I like it, heavy as hell and stout - tire carrier is quiet, but the bumper stickes-out four inches - more than anyone wanting to rock-crawl would prefer (angle of approach). Not a problem for my DD/trail rig. I have a Rigid front winch bumper and like it (especially the mounting system). I have Detour slider and stiffner, like it. If I had it to do over, I would highly consider the Detour rear bumper (wasn't available when I bought my Durango). I have no affiliation with any vendor, but have had good phone service, shipment and quality of product from all three of these vendors/guys.

How did you make out with Detours?
Was there web site informative? (www.Detoursusa.com)
Were your emails replied to?
Was the phone answered?

I have the Detours Slim-Line and I love it. The price was right and Mark delievered within 3 weeks, as promised. There are only 2 things I would improve: strengthen the mounting system (somehow) and ensure the tow rating and hitch receiver is solid. I have not towed anything, but I am sure it is pretty strong.

The Rigid is great bumper as well. Not to thrilled about the latching system. I did not want to wait for the Rigid, that's why I continued searching and found the Detours. I don't think I could be any happier.

As with all swing outs, it is a pain in the butt to have to swing it all the way open to get into the hatch, but it is still better than lugging a tire on the roof.

Just my 2 cents....
Good Luck!

I have heard only good stuff from guys in michigan about the customer service of JCR. If you are willing to pay $1,200 to get some good quick service, expert advice and quick turn around call JCR they can do ya right for allot less than $1,200.

I have not called Ridgid but i have talked with Terry the owner many times in emails and he gets back to me in a day everytime.

About AJ. Last i heard he was getting someone to help in the office department (the only thing he suffered from was lack of hours in the day to answer phones and fab parts) if he does in fact have office help now i dont see why you wouldn't be happy with AJs stuff his work and designs are great and the prices are very fair.

Lastly not to drag this thread off topic whats the problem with the latch on Ridgids rear bumper ? I was all but ready to order a rear bumper and front bumper from Terry any day now :-( Please enlighten me whats so crappy about his latch ?

I personally am not to happy with it, only because Ive got the after market Tail lights and the knob is about 1/4inch away and it makes it really tough to screw or unscrew the pin. I spoke to Terry about that and mentioned i might switch to a latch he said they tried almost every latch out there and eveything would rattle loose. I will be trying a smaller 4 Star locking device, hopefully that will make it a little easier.

There's nothing "crappy" about the system, it's just that it takes a little more effort to lock down the swing arm onto the bumper. It's a very simple solution to the problem that many latches face, which is wearing out over time. Most companies, now have solved it though. As you can see in a picture on the thread posted earlier, it's a screw down system and not a latch system that's commonly used. The advantage to this system is that it's self-locking, in that the pre-emposed force of the swing arm keeps the knob from working loose. It's probably also to keep cost down.

ohh ok i can deal with that! I was worried it was less than stout and prone to rattles which would drive me crazy. I can handle the extra hassle if it doesn't rattle. Whew! I was a fraid i was going to have to go looking for a fix or find another bumper. Sweet. I am still a ridgid devotee.

How about Proto-fab,their Cam-latch is an awsome set-up.
