Rear bucket seat conversion

I got this idea from another forum that talked about dual bucket seats. I was thinking of removing the rear seat and putting in one bucket seat on the passenger side. I have a heater that's mounted on the driver's floor so there's never anyone sitting there. I figured the conversion to single seat would free up some more cargo space.

Something like that bolted to the floor with some thick steel plating and using the existing seatbelts.

those seats you posted are like the ones i tried to reto fit in the back of my 99 - with out any floor mod they are very tall and would not fit. i decided not to modify floor and kept factory bench - they would look great but you will need to cut and sink them down into that hump under the factory bench - also they will need brackets to attach to seat and then to the xj - anyways it is do - able - you just need some time fabricating it right becasue that ridge/ brace under the rear seat is structural to the xj

This gets brought up every so often and the threads go on forever, but nobody actually does it. Don't you want to keep the fold down back seat? Who really cares about rear seat passengers, just buy yourself a nice drivers suspension seat and call it a day lol.

I kid around me did it in his pre 97. But he put stock seats back there. Then added another console and it was a sweet setup. Looked really nice and well done. Ill see if i can find him on here and let you know his name

What about using part of the 60/40 split rear that wj's use? IIRC the 40 part is on the pass. side and would still be able to flip forward for rear storage.

I brought up this subject a few weeks back. It will be done by me in some fashion very soon. This is a family activity for me and I have a young adult daughter that is affected by Cerebral Palsy. She needs side support to keep from being thrown around like she does on the bench seat. I am putting Mastercraft Baja RS seats in the front and still working on a solution for the rear. I'm looking at using a modified version of the Mastercraft JK rear bucket/bench mount. I might install one seat and put in a dog bed on the other side. Mine is a 99 with the bulkhead/brace but I think I can get it to work.
