some of the guys with yotas running doubled up transfer cases with low gears are getting like 150:1 crawl ratios or more. at about 3500rpm they're doing about 2mph.
 
if your doing a lot of highway, i doubt there will be much of a difference between 4.10s and 4.56, maybe 200 rpms that wont be noticible really, but around town it probably wil like in 1st. if your goin to spend the money on a regear why not just go all out, itll cost the same n e way you know

I ran 32x11.50 BFG M/T's for a long time.

Go 4.56, or you will hate it. ;)
 
I didn't read all the reply's but I have 33's and 4,56 in my 1990 and my RPM's at 65MPH are 2250 at 75MPH the RPM's are 2500.. And after my inyector change, I can do burnouts..... :) and my MPG's are 12... :(
 
To put it really simple:

3.55s and 33s = working your tranny hard and not working your engine = BAD.

4.56s and 33s = working your engine about as much as stock (3.55s and 28s) and your tranny too = good.

I get 17mpg with 33s and 4.56s BTW and can burn the tires and run about 2750rpms @70mph.
 
For me I need to save all I can on gearing as well as other mods, I needed a new rear end and rather than putting a D35 back in I wanted to put a better rear end for obvious reasons.. I weighed that different rear ends and costs of gearing both front and back and my wallet and came to the comprimise, I could not afford a new axle and then regear both, but I could afford to get an 8.8, make the swap and regear the front... this was the preffered choice since I found an 8.8 with the 4.10s which will get me closer to stock, I would like to go 456 but I cannot afford to regear two axles and I dont plan on going to 33" tires for a few years when I settle down with a carrer (I am just about done university, 12 weeks to go!!) and since I do alot of highway driving I was recommended by many to go with the 4.10s, the best comprimise of onroad highway and offroad for 32 inchers....

Fortunetly my girlfriends father is a mechanic and is going to help me regear the front so its the cost of parts but I want to be able to afford a locker for the front, so I am going to learn to regear first hand so that in a few years when I get more lift I will be able to afford to swap gears in both as well as lock the rear. but for now, putting in an already geared 8.8 and regearing the front to match is the only way I can do this as of now.
 
I'll bet your 92', with 3.55's has a manual tranny. If so, that's why.

WOW 2000 to 2100 RPM's at 65? Are u sure?

Mine are like 2500 and up. Maybe the 1997 AW4 tranny's are a little different.

If my tranny was taking a GINORMOUS shit on me, wouldnt it shift hard and slug my RPM's?

Is it better to drive it in 3rd rather than D around town?
And yes i do drive it in D on the freeway.

Remember i have a auto with overdrive.

i have drove on 33" and 3.55 for 3 years and no problems here, imho it shouldnt put any more pressure on the tranny than pulling a trailer around. IIRC Jeep never put a limit on how much you can pull something.

I don't know if that is exactly the direction you were headed when you were typing this, but i dunno thats my opinion, i do want to regear tho, it just costs too much money to have the shop do it :repair:
 
Just wanted to let you know I also have a 92 cherokee. I put 33's on with stock 3.55 gears. Only thing is it didn't want to shift into overdrive. Once I put 4.56 gears in it went all back to normal. For the Rpm I can do 60mph and the RPMs will be dead on 2000rpms. (TRANS IS A AW4 AUTO)

If your 92 is a stick with an open diff and your 97 has a posi then yea you can roast your tires all day long in the 92.
 
My 92 is an auto with open 3.55 on 33 and 5.5 re lift and my 97 is an auto with 33 an auto and 4.56 open and a 5.5 re lift. Im dragging them side by side this weekend. Ill post a result. yayah!!:viking:
