RE 3.5" Lift 5" Too High In Rear!!!!HELP!

I actually fail to see the issue here... Dude.... they NEED TO SETTLE! They are NEW leaf packs... load her up. Drive her around for a while. She WILL settle. I dont understand why you are getting so agrivated over all of this... Since when is a little more temp lift bad? Striptide is just very lucky to have a non-sagger :D

well, we are going to give BDS a shot, and then depending on how that goes, we will either sell the REs or keep them for later (if we ever want to do a 4.5"). I apritiate all the comments and sugjestions. I will deffenatlely post before & after pictures when shes all done.

your new BDS springs will sit high too. add a spacer to the front till it settles. why is removing a leaf going to be more of a pain in the a$$ than replacing the springs completely? you can always replace the leaf in 6 months. alot less work and $$. buy someones used leafs if you arent patient enough to wait for them to settle.

i will say one thing about BDS springs, they have a life-time warrantee for a reason. they don't take abuse well at all. (key word being ABUSE). i know several guys who got sick of replacing the springs on their YJs because they wouldnt take abuse, even though they got new ones. i doudt the XJ springs are any different quality-wise.

the problem with taking out a leaf on the RE springs is that each leaf supports the one above it. so we are worried about bending a leaf because of taking one out.
what kind of "ABUSE" are you talking about with those BDS springs? like winching sideways over small obstacles and rut jumping? could you be anymore specific.
thanks

how hard are you gonna wheel it? "abuse" is the torture that full width axles, 37" tires, spring-over conversions, and foot on the floor obstacles puts on a rig. i just think your jumping the gun on the "too high" issue. the BDS will also sit high after they are installed. where are they measurments being taken from? measureing from the ground with the new tires already installed or hud-to-fender? i could see 8+ inches including the tires.

pics would help this thread alot.

wow. what's with all of the "give it time to settle" stuff. If he's truly 8-1/2" higher, there is a problem. btw, my cheros are soa.

How is that a problem? My 3" springs sat around there for about a year. They are new. They need to settle.

Like said above. we need pics..

Just a few hints on your problem...I install rough country suspension where i work....and there is no way your gonna drive that down the road safe with 8.5 on the back without a SYE.....Just alone with a 6.5 your pullin hard on your yoke out of your transfer case......as everyone is saying they will settle thats true they might settle a half inch or so....but hard to see something settle more then that....most these new lifts down even give you the true amount....what brand is the lift??...8.5 inches is alot i would count how many springs are in your pack....could have just been a mistake and someone added one to many....another hint.....if it was a cheaper lift and you didnt come with a transfer case drop make one.....you will be happier in the long run.....less u-joint repacment.....have any other questions email me!! ttyl

ok, I give up. I'm having quite a bit of trouble with posting pictures. I don understand what I'm doing wrong. it doesnt give me the option to add an attachment with my post in this thread. I figured before that it was because I didnt have 50 posts.
what is the deal?

Thats not 8" of lift in the rear.

My RE 4.5" sat 6" front and close to 7" in the rear when brand new.

I just checked out that leaf pack and it looks to have 7 leafs in it. For the price of new spring clips and maybe center pins (maybe $20), I'd just remove the bottom 2 leaves. Much cheaper than a new packs plus you can always mix in the remaining leaves over time.

Also, definitely replace those shocks. In on pic you can see the front shock completely extended past beyond its cover while sitting on the ground.

I can understand your fustration. At 3.5" you are looking at a t-case drop and shims, for the back and maybe an adjustable track bar for the front. At 6 +, you are looking at a SYE, drive shaft, control arms, etc, etc. $$$

I hope you have budgeted for new tires - your current ones look AWESOME with the new lift! :)

ok, I am going to replace the shocks. I have a trail rated cross member/belly pan from tnt customs, which should drop the t-case an inch or two, and we have a sye kit for it.

I'm pretty sure that we were measuring from the stock height of the vehicle, not the old springs.

I had a dana 35 in the rear before we started lifting it, and now we have an 8.8 with 4:10 gears, rear disc conversion, and aburns ected locker.

I am going to go up there today and I will take a few more pictures. I did not get to see the jeep in person last time, it was only my dad that went up there. I'm sure it looks worse in person, I will be able to give you my better personal opinion tonight.

I also have an adjustable trac bar and new lower and upper CA's. I will be putting new steal rims on with different backspacing.

Right now all I'm worried about is the rear drive shaft, and measuring for the rear shocks. thats what brought up the idea of getting the BDS springs or taking out a few leafs etc...
