RD 21 on Sunday the 5th?

Well we paln on meting you guys there...Will have our Rigs and the Give-Away...and NO...if you break you can not drive the Give-away...Dan...

What if we don't want to break, can we drive the give away instead :D

The more the merrier, we can get through this trail semi quickly if everyone stays in one piece. If we are having massive breakage, we can get off the trail pretty easily and quickly also. That's why I suggested this one as a "warm up" for Moab. We aren't stuck in the backcountry of CO with no way of getting folks back to the trailer and on to the campground.

Troy, you can either weld the caps or install snap rings, but you don't need both.

There is a nice campground in Fruita, I think it's the next off ramp past the turn off to 21 Rd. We stayed there for BOTW2. They also have sopme cabins. It would be a good place to stay on Sat night if you're going to run 21 Rd on Sunday. It should be no problem getting to Moab Sunday evening, unless someone breaks something late in the day and you go out the top and get lost rather than driving back down the canyon.

Where can I pull up a map of how to get to 21 Rd.? I'd like to see where it is in relation to Grand Junction. This year, Shari and I are gonna do the hotel thing in Moab 'cuz this is likely the only vacation we'll have this year and we decided not to rough - it. So, we'd be best to find a hotel near 21 Rd so we don't have to haul camping stuff for one night.

If anyone knows the size of snap rings I'd need, please pass it along, those are probably easier to remove than a spot weld when on the trail.

I took a spare joint, pulled the cap, put my snap ring pliers in my pocket and walked into my local hardware store until I found what I wanted..........Sorry, I don't remember a measurement........

Well, you get off at Rd. 23 and head west on the frontage road until you hit Rd. 21 and turn right. It's right there in junction. I would say any hotel in town would suit you just fine. I do seem to remember a holiday in at the next exit though. Rd. 18 or 19 exit maybe?

Well, i just got done talking to a couple of Local Wheelers here and they're gonna join us on 21 Rd that Sun. They're finishing up 2 of their comeptioin Rock Buggies ahd hope to have them ready to run 21rd with us, if not they've got some old Cj's that they'll bring. I did it with them last time and we made it all the way over the top and drove out the long gravel way up on the mesa.

As for a meeting place, i'd suggest the Acorn Conoco just south of I-70 on exit #26. That is usually were we meet up and then it's a short drive down the frontage road to 21 road where you make a right and take it all the way back to the canyon. For refernce exit number 26 is actually 22 Rd, so you just go 1 mile west on the north frontage road there which is called hwy 6/50 and you'll see 21rd on your right.

Keep me posted, i've got an extra bedroom at my place if some one needs a place to crash Sat or Sun night before Moab, and I'm hooked up good with the local 4x4 shop here incase anything major breaks, we can drag it back there and have it up on the trail with in a day. They've got everything you could think of in a fabrication shop. If you want to do the work yourself in the shop they charge about $20 an hour or LOTS OF BEER :D Otherwise it's $50 an hour for their labor rate.

Wally, let's meet up the road a ways. I can't get the motorhome into that conco, it's way too small from what I remember. We'll just meet about halfway between the frontage and the canyon on Rd. 21 in one of those huge ass flats next to the hill climbs.

Sean, there's a BIG parking area on 21 rd heading up towards the trail. There is a sign that says "21rd OHV/recreation area" we can all meet there it's on the right hand side of 21 rd. I believe it is right around the area where the pavement ends and it becomes a gravel road. If you pass the big Gas plant on your left youv'e gone to far. Why don't we say we'll meet there at 10:00am, Sunday oct 5th.

If you have any questions on how to get there, look at my post above, but basically, get off at exit #26, head north from the highway on the main road, hwy 6/50 and go down about a mile to 21 road and make a right. Go about 5 or so miles till the road turns to gravel and the OHV parking area is on your right.

I shouldn't butt in here, because I'll be driving to Moab from the west that day, but.........

You might consider starting earlier than 10:00, since everyone still needs to drive to Moab after running the trail that day. Anyone coming from a distance away needs to be there the night before anyway, and I'm sure would prefer an earlier start.

10 is WAY too late. I'm thinkin' more like 8:30, that puts us out there by 9. Someone will be broken by 9:30 and then the fun will begin. I want to be off the trail by 5 pm so that we can be in the campground long before 8 pm. It sucks trying to manuever the box around a campground at night.

I figure we'll see how far we've made it by 1 pm. We'll either turn around if we've been having problems or we'll head on cuz we're almost done.

Alright, I wanna get a list going of folks. Here is who I have so far:

The Kevin/ Heather/ Woody/ Karen clan
The yellaheep clan
Crunch
Some Wheeler and stragglers including Scott and Steph I assume
CHW
Wallysheata and buddies
Jes hopefully (you can make it ya big lug)

Any more takers, this sounds like the perfect group of experienced wheelers to have a good semi quick run for the day.

Hey Sean, we might be there for Sunday. We are driving up to Moab on Saturday, and were planning on going to Grand Junction to see some of Vanda's family on Sunday. I sure as hell don't want to hang out with the outlaws...er, I mean in-laws. Sounds like a good reason to wheel.

If I can make it, I'll probably have my friend Joe with me.

Put me down for a definite maybe :)

Well this is turning into quite the nationwide trail ride. We've got OH, MI, AL, NC, CO, CA, AZ (maybe), WI (maybe), and I can't remember which of those goofy eastern states CHW is from.

No, CHW is from Pennsyltucky (across the river). And please, Jersey may be many things, but Kalifornia Dreamin' ain't one of them. The Mob is much more organized than the Hollywood crowd could ever hope to be.

So, how'd the Red Wings do THIS year? :D
