i hope this is in the right section so i guess it will get moved if its not...i have a fairly stock 1996 with a 4.0, aw4 and 4wd. i have a open cone filter i would put on, high flow cat, flowmaster 40, synthetic oil...thats about it for performance...my friend with a 97 accord 4 door with the 2.2 wants to race me so i was wondering do you think i would even hold my own or would it blow me away. all he has done to it is a intake. i think that it would be damn close just wondering for you take and any suggestions to run faster cuz im sure every tenth would help...i also have destinatino mt's with about 40% tread left but they grip the dry road really well and im sure i wouldn't spin at all with the 3.55's so thanks for any input.

if you know how to drive, the cherokee should be 1/2 to a full second faster in the quarter.

accord - 2855lbs and 130hp +5 for intake is 16.1sec in quarter

cherokee - 3500lbs and 190hp +10 for mods is 15.1 in the quarter.

dont manually shift the aw4, the stall speed is about 2k, so hold the brakes and hold the rpms just under 2000, and when the light turns green just floor it and point it straight

You will smoke his ass i raced my friends 97 both stock i even had a roof rack at the time. I smoked him he ended up buying a XJ a month later now he wins my jeep is heavy

you didn't mention what size tires you are running. if they're stock size, it'd be ok. if they're bigger you'll have a problem. if they're smaller, you'll have a little more power.

if you had a manual, you'd be able to rip alot harder and faster. my manual jeep outruns my automatic without a problem.

and definitely loose all the weight. take out the seat, spare, anything that's not bolted in. take out that folder with 300 cd's in it, etc..etc..etc.... some of the small stuff doesn't seem like much, but it adds up. supposedly for every 100# you loose, you gain almost 1/10th or something like that. and try to run with about 1/4 tank of gas.

When my 93 xj was still stock (4.0/ax15/231/8.25), I beat a buddy in a camaro (v8 auto) without trouble at all. Of course my jeep was running as perfect as it could with 100k on the clock.

Well my friend has a 1994 accord with the 2.2 and the 5 speed. Same engine, generation, etc. Ive got about the same setup with a few more things than you in my jeep. I went to the dragstrip and ended up with high 16's and he got low 17's. Its different on the street because i can launch in 2 wheel and not have to worry about spinning. Im not sure where you came up with the 15.1 in the quarter for the jeep though. My time was a lot slower. BTW, on the street i would only beat him by a car or two but ask him to go for a roll from around 30, one of the advantages of having an automatic, you'll kick down to first and he would most likely start in second giving you a quick one car jump.

15.1 for a cherokee sounds super optimistic to me.

Search for, read, and apply ALL of Dr. Dyno's posts, and you'll likely hand turboed Honda, owners their asses, as well.

Agree. A stock XJ is capable of low 16's. Add 10hp worth of mods and you might do high 15's, but definitely NOT 15.1.
I only managed a 14.98 after I'd done a whole raft of mods on my old 4.0 and that was with weight reduction. My best with the 4.6 stroker and the same weight reduction is 14.24.

Agree. I know there are some crazy fast Hondas out there that would definitely hand me my ass, but I wonder how much money would have gone into them to make them that fast. I only put $1500 into my stroker.

speaking of which, did you see the golen stroker dyno results in JP magazine?

The times i gave were from a calculator only based on power to weight ratio.

down in the calculators section.

i raced a 2.0 camry and had 4 cars on him by the time i hit 65
