Question on stock fog lights

I have a 96 Country and it has a fog light switch as well as the full wiring (Or so it seems) out to the bumper where 2 cables have connectors that should connect to factory fog lights. There are also 2 mounting holes on the top of my bumper. The only thing missing is fog lights. and my question is how big of a light can i mount on these factory wires? like can I wire up some hellas or small LED boxes? or Should I just buy the factory fog lights for like $60.

Anyone know the wattage or whatever these wires can handle ?

Thanks! :patriot:

I believe they get 12v but don't quote me on that. I run 2 6" LED bars off the stock fog light wires. They work fine. Before that I had some crappy procomp fog lights w/ 55w bulbs in them. Go head and use them.

using a relay harness will really help though, those wires look like 18AWG, 16AWG maybe. You want 12 or 14 AWG to really light 'em up. (unless the earlier ones got better wiring than my '99)

That's exactly what I was hoping to do. Thanks
How did you hook them up to the stock connectors?

I'm hoping to use LED's so they will draw less power. Not sure on how thick my wires are, they're bundled up in those plastic split tubings and wrapped anyhow and I'm not going to tear it open. LED's should be just fine I assume

That's how they're supposed to work and it's a legal requirement I believe. If you have actual honest fog lights there's no point in running them with the high beams anyway, they'll only over-light the foreground and hurt your ability to see far down the road at highway speed. Now if you are trying to convert the circuit to driving lights or off road lights you could probably just move the wire behind the driver's headlight from the high beam filament to the low beam filament and then they will *only* come on with the brights. They'd still come on with the parking lights though, I'll have to headscratch on that for a minute.

I heard something about if you have an led instead of a bulb in the factory setup that it won't carry enough current and the light will not work properly. I heard this for tail lights but does it apply to fog lights too ?
