I was just curious about what would be the weapon of choice to sink these?

i thought that was like anti-aircraft anit-missle type stuff.... no surface stuff

Personally, I'd like to use a 50.cal they are lots of fun to play with. But besides that you planning something? Although a torpedo could probly chase those down pretty easily....

Mostly anti-airrcraft, but we actually used them a few times in off the coast of Bosnia in 1995 on some speed boats that made a run for the carrier group. Ate those little buggers up. Would do the same to Imanutjob's little gun boats too..... From the wikipedia listed above (just for clarification):

Phalanx has been developed through a number of different configurations. The basic style is the Block 0. The Block 1 (1988) offers various improvements in radar, ammunition, rate of fire, increasing engagement elevation to +70 degrees, and computing. These improvements were intended to increase the system's capability against emerging Soviet supersonic anti-ship missiles. Block 1A introduced a new computer system to counter more maneuverable targets. The Block 1B PSuM (Phalanx Surface Mode, 1999) adds a forward looking infrared (FLIR) sensor to allow the weapon to be used against surface targets. This addition was developed to provide ship defense against small vessel threats and other "floaters" in littoral waters and to improve the weapon's performance against slower low-flying aircraft. The FLIR's capability is also of use against low-observability missiles and can be linked with the Rolling Airframe Missile system to increase RAM engagement range and accuracy. The Block 1B also allows for human intervention to identify and target threats.

Hmm, I don't know, maybe a Spectre A/C 130 bringing the rain....

M2 fifties would tear right through the plastic hull, and unless you hit the machinery or the personnel the boat would just keep coming.

Jeepin Coastie find some video from a 378 or 270 down in CARIB that used them on a Go-Fast and you'll see what I mean, the splashes on the far side of the Go-Fast are not from misses. The M-240 on those clown boats should be replaced with a M-19 and flucette (sic) rounds. Less effective range = less collateral damage.

The sea whiz would work, but during the Tanker Wars of the late 80's it was cluster bombs dropped by Intruders that put the hurt on the Iranians. But seeing an AC-130 in action would be cool.

generally on the dozen or so south pacific patrols i was involved in, as soon as a uscg helo hovers a go-fast, they jettison the bales, problem solved. now uscg hitron helos have a gunner armed with an armor piercing 50 cal sniper rifle which will easily destroy any outboard

last i herd ... they were phaseing those out ...

I remember my telling about them firing the 5 inch at some small boats when they were doing drug pratrols off of Columbia. He thought that was a little overkill but it was fun.
