i just got a bigger welder, its a snap-on mw 220.
just to be sure would this be strong enough ld my link brackets to my axle?
the rear tag says 208 or 230.
one pass or should i run another to be sure.

The key is knowing what you are doing. The personal skill is more important than he welder. I would hate to say how many brackets and projects I did over 30 years with my 110v mig. It is all in the technique.

no doesnt look like that.
this one is mine. has alot of settings my lil welder didnt have

You better hope it works, supposedly its was made by Century and most parts are not available any more.Do a google search for MW220.

X2... welding is 95% prep work. You can get away with using a much smaller machine (110V) if you bevel and clean your surfaces well.
If you took a welding class you should know what amperage is required to weld on a bracket. When in doubt do some destructive testing.:D

Congrats on the new to you machine. Before you weld on the axle get some simular thickness metal and give a practice weld or 20. Like others have said a lot is in the prep work. Take your time,be anal about prep and enjoy your new toy.

ive been practicing with this welder. i'll have to get a few pics of my welds to see what ppl think.

hows it feel/seem to you? stepping up from 110FC to 220mig was AMAZING for me.
wheres the closeup shot to showoff some features?

heres 2 pics of my welds. 3/8 thick angle .03 wire(think, it was already on the welder, i just measured it with calipers. calipers measured .0325)

good? bad? i have been doing off and on welding for a few years (personal projects).
just never build axle brackets. i have built bumpers that held up great.

^^^ This

I did look at the pic. Looks pretty, but that doesn't mean it penetrated.

http://www.wikihow.com/Arc-Weld Check out frame 14 and see if that's what you ended up with. It shows 3 grooves filled. Groove 1 is weak. Groove 2 will hold, Groove 3 is pretty.

i'm going to be doing some pre-heating cause its outside and its like 40 degrees. (uhh need a building haha)
