The other axle will spin in the opposite direction. That's how spider gears act.
The pinion nut holds the pinion in place... You must have it on there or the pinion will drop down in to the ring gear and make a mess.
so i should put the front pieace of the driveshaft in place with the nut to the pinion and test it?
which would explain why my current problem started after the diveshaft fell off.
is there no cotter pin or anything else to hold it in place?
and i guess my gears werent broken, untill i drove a while in reverse a bunch...
this is still cheaper and easier than doing ball joints and hubs.
and now i got a high pinion, which will hopefully help with the vibes.
On a side note, I have seen a couple guides that say to jack up your xj on your crossmember, now i have a bent crossmember. At least now I can justify and upgrade.
