Push mower advice?

Eh my briggs lasted this long without issue, I'll stick with whats proven with me and not go with a clone.

and if it were a briggs from 30 years ago it wouldn't have ever needed rebuilt in your lifetime.

they are as disposable as anything else these days. plastic cams/governors. plastic carbs.

if you want to toss $50 at it and still have a 10 year old motor, have at it, just don't dismiss other options because you trust the briggs name.
They are not lifetime motors anymore.

Finally messed with the mower, pulled the valves, cleaned them up on the wire wheel. The valves and seats had no pitting or wear marks. I went ahead and lapped them using course and fine grit, got them nice and shiny again.

I got a bit gun shy grinding the valve stem down to get the right clearance so I'm on the high end of the specs or maybe over. I plan to pull them again and get the valve clearance in spec 100%. I really didn't want to grind too much material the first time messing with them. Engine top dead center and valves closed I wasn't able to spin them though.

Seemed to start easier and I'm hoping once the valve clearance is dialed in it will be even better. Still plan to mess with the rings too just because I have them now.

Kinda fun working on the little mower engine for sure.

Mowed my backyard for first time in about 4 weeks. Grass was nearly knee high and some how my sprinklers went off last night or this morning so the grass was like a swamp. Pretty much the worst case mowing scenerio and I figured, lets see what happens.

Mower set at the heighest setting and no problems at all. Didn't bog down or try to stall really at all(only when the discharge clogged up but come on). Knee high wet grass didn't stop it, I'm happy. Seems the valves were the problems and its running like a champ again. I got about 30 bucks in tools to do the valve job and now have the tools to do more in the future. Glad I did the work and not gone the replacement route.

I re-did a Honda 4 stroke lawn mower 3-4 times before it finally really died. (bottom end bearing problem) Love being able to get something broken running again, (but then we work on Jeeps)
