Push Button Start

Last edited:
I remember Jeeps in the service, we had to turn on a master power switch, then hold open two momentary switches while engaging a foot operated push button.

This would be excellent theft deterrence + it eliminates anything bad happening if the starter button is depressed while the engine is running.

I have been using a push button on mine for awhile now never had a problem with hitting it on accident. I know what is causing the key not to work I just have not made it back to fixing the problem Yet.

alright well i like this idea and i happen to have been thinking of using the space in the front ash tray for something cool and now i think i have it figured out...

ok sorry it took a while, but here's my industrial switch

WOW, maybe next time you make fun of someone you'll use proper English...
"engineer student" nice

That mount was a high school endeavor and has not been thought of since, I don't see a problem with it...

edit:
and there is a difference between "your" and "you're" learn them...

fix the column. push button starts are cool on exotics, and race cars, you have a jeep.

Yeah it's a Jeep. Buttons are much simpler than key switches. Simple is good. My buddy starts his CJ3 with a button, since it doesn't even have a key... when it works and he doesn't have to reach under the dash and futz with his wiring.

I had the same problem as the OP so i ran two wires to the starter switch by the battery, then installed something very similar to

It is mounted to the left of the steering column on my 87 in the stock fog light switch area as i had no switches there. The switch on the left makes accidentally pushing the start button no problem when the car is running. The key must be turned on to activate the fuel pump and computer.

I got my switch at autozone back in the day in the rice aisle. I think painless wiring makes something similar.
