Tomorrow I will having my mechanic checking an 02' Laredo with a 4.0L and 122K miles that I am looking to purchase.

As part of the inspection I will be asking him to do a PSI and Compresssion check - can someone tell me what the correct specs/readings should be on this Jeep ?

Is there an off-the-shelf kit that I can use to test if there is water in the oil without having to ship it out? Looking for same day results.

Thanks

4.0 compression spec is 120-150 psi, with no more than a 30 psi variation between cylinders.

Not aware of any test for water in the oil without shipping it (Blackstone labs is great).

However, if you suspect a cracked head (do you as the 02 has the infamous 0331 cylinder head?) a "block test kit" from NAPA can sniff the coolant for the presence of hydrocarbons. About $45 or so and pretty effective.
