So I'm beginning to measure and layout the design plans for the New XJ Console that will (tentatively) be produce by Max-Bilt. This company, up till now, has been producing storage solutions and a few other products exclusively for the CJ/TJ/YJ and recently, the JK.

All consoles are built using 16-Gauge steel and are powder-coated to provide a tough, durable finish. These have been very popular in the CJ/TJ/YJ community!

However due to some recent insight/input by myself, Max-Bilt is now looking into developing an XJ console that will provide what we need/want in a console.

I am looking for input, opinions, suggestions as to what you guys would like to see in a console for our XJs. Using this information I will be designing the console and then it will be fabricated and tested. If you would like to get an idea of something similar, http://www.maxbilt.com/jkcommand.html has a slide-show of the JK console.

Please leave feedback so that I can begin this process!

EDIT: I know this seems like it should go elsewhere in the forums, but this is a local company and I'm doing the work. I want the input of the guys most likely to use it, and that I know I can get honest answers from. :)

Hey Flash, an item that has been brought up many times is a place for the CB. I think a lockable compartment and the added area for switches to be mounted would be sweet too. I think having the switch cut outs would be optional b/c I know some people run round switches etc and would not want the rectangle cut outs. That is just my $.02

As part of their motto "Secure Storage Systems", all the consoles have lockable tops.

As for the switches, The holes could be switched out for round-holes, the current models just have the square because we're using 'ARB' style switches. Thanks!

EDIT: The current CJ/TJ/YJ models have a flip-up lid where underneath you can mount a CD player ( or CB...) We are looking at some possible designs to allow for this mod on the XJ as well...

switches, cb for sure

i know the consoles are different but would there also be a 97+ option?

Well depending on feasibility and how the first prototypes go, we will hopefully either

a) Make various models depending on year, auto/manual, etc...

b) come up with a design that is compatible for both vehicles...

I believe the first designs will be modeled after a 97-up console.

The end goal is to produce something that once bolted in, looks like it came right from factory.

cb storage would be great.

not going to lie though, the link you gave above, I would not pay anywhere near that for a consule. they look great but over $400 is steep.

the current prices are high, but this company is just a few guys in college, or recently graduated. We are currently renting our production facility (it is housed out of one of the campus buildings). With time and more efficient fabrication techniques, we hope to bring the prices down. However, like everything, sometimes you have to pay for quality.

Cup holders that work! Ive got the Rugged Ridge insert. Works alright for a can or two, or one cup from the drive through. But it's got no real depth or capability to accept too many cups. Something that could hold 2 travel coffee mugs would be cool. Just a thought.

Based off what has been built so far, 2 cup holders will be a standard feature, thanks!

97+ console? Woot!

Hidden compartment/false bottom for a sidearm.

Cupholders that don't suck.

Cassette storage slots.

Optional holes for gauges towards the front.

I always find the sidearm makes itself more available in time of haste on the hip rather than in a hidden compartment...

Heh, great Idea on the gauges, as for the hidden compartment, I'll see how it pans out... Dunno how the boss will take it if I say for sidearms...

So say it's for an extra house key, a box of provolactics, your wheel lock key and the cigarettes you want to keep secret from your girl...
