Project Red Shirt

If project red shirt is new to you, read below how it went for a man...

"Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together..

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class (across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

'No', he responded.
'Heading out?' I asked.

'No. I'm escorting a soldier home.'

Going to pick him up?

'No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq , I'm taking him home to his family. '

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, 'Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.'

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

'Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt sign.'

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.. "

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country, and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red, much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is.. "We need your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

PLEASE, invite your friends from school, church, or anywhere! Get your communities involved and tell everyone you know.

I've seen it before.

It made no sense then, it makes no sense now.

Do you really think a soldier will see someone wearing red on Friday, come up and tell them thanks for the support?

I don't need a soldier to thank me for the support. They do what they do whether or not people support them. I am going to do it to keep the soldiers in my mind and to remind everyone that there are people overseas protecting everything we are and everything we have.

Are you serious?
Ok, tell me how wearing red on Fridays to honor our troops is any different then having a PFC Seth Stanton sticker on your Jeep to honor him. Do you think that's pointless and stupid too? I mean its not like he's gonna just appear and walk up to your rig and thank you for your support, right?
:gonnablow

Uh oh.. thats a touchy subject Mason... I am scared what people are going to say about that.

Uh, yeah. OK how about this. Instead of red shirt Fridays I am going to go out on the back porch every Tuesday at 3am and throw a rock across the yard. That's my show of support.

It's also just as meaningful as a red shirt.

Either you do it or you dont dude. No need to shoot shit down for NO reason

I can give you a list of people I know and who I was friends with that have been killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, or fighting terrorism in other areas of the world. Those people are who I'll be thinking about when I wear red on Friday. And I'm not the only one, there are many others that have lost friends and relatives that this would have a more personal meaning for. Now how is that any less significant than a Stanton sticker?
That's all I'm getting at... I didn't mean it in a way that would lessen the meaning of the PFC Stanton sticker.

No, its not. A red shirt on Fridays not only shows your support, but shows it to other people. Then maybe they get involved too, and so on. And even if they don't join in, they get the message and are reminded of that every time they see you wearing that red shirt.
But if throwing a rock across the yard is your way of showing support, and it means something to you, who am I to tell you its pointless or stupid? I appreciate and respect the fact that you're willing to do something at all.

That's pretty much my point.

There's no mistaking a Stanton sticker. Who's to say someone wearing a red shirt has the first clue that it means something to anyone? Apples and oranges.

That's my point. If you're trying to show anything, do it an a way that leaves no doubt.

I wasn't sure what that sticker meant the first time I saw one... honestly I thought it might have been some 4x4 club or something. Some guy that happens to pull up next to you at a stoplight won't understand it either.
Now that I know what it is, I can spot one and easily recognize it. Same for red shirts on Fridays.

The Stanton sticker wasn't intended to show a display of support for the troops in general - it was mostly derrived from a need for many of us Chapter folk to honor and mourn the loss of a fellow member, his rank and service. It was also a way to show that our Chapter would support Seth's family - at any time, anywhere for any reason. And lastly, to raise funds for a cause Seth himself believed in and had hoped to be involved in upon the end of his service.

I agree with JJacobs in that simply wearing a red shirt is pretty meaningless..... Apparently then all the Bloods gang members will be supporting the troops on Fridays as well.

Now, if that red shirt had a logo of some sort to explain it's purpose then absolutely, it's worth the statement.

We're not chastising you 'Noob for wanting to do this and posting the info about it.........

Apparently it's St. Patrick's day everyday where I work..... our uniform shirts are green.......

Ya dig?

I think this movement would have more bite if it wasn't specifically red shirts, but how about wearing any shirt that displays anything identifying any branch of the military - on fridays...... Something like that.

Now, anyone up to start a "Lack of Support for the Democrats/Obama" Friday thing? :D

Here is my take on the support thing. Support the troops and their memory by standing up for what they fought and died for! You see, all those that died in the service of our great nation did so in the name of Freedom! Every man and woman should be free to choose for themselves! Reguardless of how you feel about the war, the reason we go over there is to make sure the people there have the ability to choose their own path in life!
For me it is not what you wear or say but what you do as an American that shows support!

Yes that is a good one too!! I already sent one!

It is just a sign of our respect fo out troops
one of the many different ways to do that is just a right hand ove your heart all it is is saying thanks for everything

Speaking of which, are their any more Seth Stanton stickers? Mine has peeled off.
