I pulled the head liner down a little so I could see the roof structure there is a cross brace right there and I screwed it right to it with short self tappers. Its been up there ever since. About 5 years. Never had a problem. except when you get to bouncing around on trail sometimes the mic will jump off and make a dash for the back seat if your on a hill. But I keep my mic on a 4 wire curly cable lol. Keeps it in check hahahaha

i dont know why i didnt even think about that structure there. that will be what i do. did you run you cable threw the liner to the ant.? i think thats what i will do.

Yup ran power and coax through the liner and down the A pillar. Make sure to hold the cb up there first to make sure you'll like it. It does take up some viewing room. Good luck.

So I feel like my steering is not yet perfect. I have gotten death wobble a couple times and I can feel a little wobbliness in the steering wheel pretty much all the time.
My understanding is that the drag link and the track bar must be the same angle. Judging by the pic posted below, they are not.
One person said I should get a drop pitman arm, but I feel like(looking at this pic) that, that would make things worse. It almost seems like my track bar needs some form of drop.
How would I get that? Does it need to be screwed in a little more? I originally screwed it in to the specs the install instructions said...

its hard to tell from this pic, but with new steering i would check 2 things first 1.) caster angle. i had an in correct caster angle for a while when i first lifted my xj and i would get wobble all the time and it would occasionally turn into full blown death wobble. i adjusted it too far the other way for a while and the dw and shakes went away completely, but i had TERRIBLE bump steer. once i got it set correctly it was like magic. the other thing i would check is your steering box. make sure there is no slop, loose bolts or cracks in the unibody where the box is. i'm sure you probably had an alignment done, but that can also cause tire shimmy if its not right. also, i would check your ball joints just to make sure they are fine

Whoever told you to look into a drop pitman arm to get the angles more even is correct. You can do that or even raise the track bar mount, would do the exact same thing for correcting the angles. Your choice.
The uneven angles of track bar and drag link will cause bumpsteer not death wobble.

Loose steering or track bar parts will cause death wobble.

Hard to judge by the picture, but what lift do you have and what 'lift range' did you choose when buying your steering/tb setup? It honestly looks like the components are for a taller lift which is why the angles are off... I'd agree that the TB needs to go up or DL go down... Anyway to post up a direct front shot?

I am just asking here but these are all things that would have been corrected during the alignment right?
I had someone I trust very much to do a perfect job, do the alignment for me.

So 1st off you are saying that death wobble would not be caused by the angles so maybe I should check some other parts.
Also explain the theroy of the DL and TB if you can. I feel like a drop pitman arm is just going to push the DL lower, making it worse. Here is a pic of what I feel like is going to happen.

i asked my wife to send e a couple pics and they are still not the best. but if these are no good i can take a few better ones when i get home.

the coils and upper and lower control arms are used 6.5in from rustys
the steering and shocks are all new from IRO and ordered and installed to the 6in specs



let me know if these pics work or i will slap up a couple more

These are good, looking at them, I would say your DL is what is out of place here. TB looks good, the ends are parallel with the axle which is the way it should be. Your DL might benefit from running a YJ pitman arm... If I remember correctly, an XJ is 1'in lower than YJ and ZJ is 1 in lower than XJ... I run a YJ arm on my XJ...

the caster on a lifted jeep and a stock jeep are 2 different things...if a shop doesn't specialize in lifted vehicles, it may still need to be adjusted. get a shot of the back of your diff/pinion angle on your front drive shaft. it won't be a perfect way to tell, but it might tell us something. XJ ball joints are not adjustable, so they may not check them during an alignment. also, the factory spec for toe in is not the same for tires that arent stock. tires that are 30+ usually are better off running a tad more toe in than stock. i believe stock spec for toe in is 0 to 1/8" toe in in the front. with 35's it should be 1/8 toe in at a minimum. where did you get your alignment at?

again, it could be your steering but my draglink and trac bar arent parallel and i'm just fine. we'll see what happens when i throw the bigger tires on tomorrow, but i don't suspect that there will be an issue

Green is the Drag Link for steering
Yellow is the Track Bar
I kind of guessed at the end of the Trackbar on the axle side. The bolt head is kind of obscured. Either way, the angles of the Drag Link and Track bar are pretty darn close. If the pitman arm is dropped the angles would be worse, you are correct.
Raising the Pitman arm would get the angles even closer to being parallel with each other. Lowering the Track bar Frame side mount would also help the angles be more parallel with each other.
Like someone mentioned earlier a steering stabilizer will help.
Just recently I had the Swaybar links break on my Jeep which is not lifted at all. In fact it is probably lost some height. When they finally gave out, it was VERY noticeable. I got DW pretty bad. Drove like that for a week or so and couldn't take it anymore. Any speed over 40mph hitting a bump would make the front end feel like it was going to shimmy right out from under the truck. I replaced the links and shazzam! No more DW. Just some food for thought. Its probably the cheaper of the fixes if you still have the Swaybar still around. Just gotta get longer links.

I agree. My steering angles are worse than that and I get no DW and very little bump steer. Your angles aren't your problem.
