Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

Last night a tech here stayed late to help me out with the Iron Rock Offroad over the knuckle steering.

oblivious I painted it all red:cool:

I went with the 5/8 upgrade so the knuckles had to be drill out

Getting there

So it wouldn't be a jeep if there was not issues. When installing the stabilizer shock the way the directions say to, it does not fit. It is hitting the track bar. Anyone running this kit run into this issue?
Dan have you installed yours yet?

Im not super worried about having that on there. I know there are plenty of folks who just choose to not run them. But I also know that they didn't put it on there for no reason, so if it 'can' go back on then I would prefer that.

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

Sam, I never ran a stabilizer after my steering upgrades and got along great. My original upgrade (or down grade) was a Rusty's set up, then went to the JCR 1-ton set up and eventually I fabbed my own from the Ballistic heim set. My personal opinion, which is often hazy due to malted hops or bong resin, is that you will be just fine without one.. unless you just wanted to put one on there and paint it red :D

You wouldn't have to scrape the bottom of the bowl if you put up another mail box...

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

The PO of my Jeep welded a tab to the coil bucket to run a steering stabilizer. Works fine, looks kinda hack though.

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

That steering setup looks very awkward to me...

I would run my bolts from the top down on the knuckles in case the nuts come off the bolt won't come out...

I agree, and I just noticed one of my jam nuts are loose. It will get reworked when I swap it all over to the 4 door.

Yea like I said, I have no problem not running one. I know rew has not had one on since he installed your axels.

I wondered, but hay that is the way the directions, pics, and all the pics online look like.

I'm doing mine today

I will keep a look out, see if you run into the same issue.

In all the pics online they are running it the way it is suppose to. Not sure how they are getting that or if they just don't care that's its hitting

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

I installed this same set up this weekend. The bolt does come from the bottom, however if you install it correctly you used thread lock, a nut and a nylock nut as a jam nut. There is very little concern that the nut(s) will come off.

Running the bolt from the top won't do you any good, the drag link mounts to the bottom of the knuckle.

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

So im looking for cb mounting ideas. I have a cobra 29 and really dislike the typical side of center console that I have seen so much. It's not the wrost with those little black cb but no way do i want to do that with this thing.

Anyone figure out a better spot? Got pics? 97+only please I had a decent spot on my 95 but the interior is just a bit more difficult on these.

Also I am looking for pics or ideas from those that have a pretty stockish interior.

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet

Well I don't know that this will help but on my (95) I have it up between the sun visors. Not sure if that'll work for the 97+

thats where i would like to put it. how did you mount it up there? not sure whats hiding under the headliner but i assumed just roof metal.
dont think it would be a good idea to screw it to the roof

we can figure out some kind of bracket that mounts to the visor thingys. that what i was gonna do a long time ago when i wanted it up there.

Re: Project: The Silver Bullet
