We bought Dave's XJ on saturday.. left Knox at 8:30 and got to Daves at 1pm.
then drove from 3pm to 10pm in the new to us cherokee.
Its stressful driving anything new to you for that long of a drive. I had stopped at advanced and picked up anything i figured needing attention..

Dave.. if you read this.. at what temp does the fan come on.. i saw the gauge go up to 220 and it freaked me out... (dave put a real gauge in there so it reads exact temps rather then the crappy gauges we have)
I d rush by turning on the ac knowing it would force the fan on..

Im tearing into the brakes today.. :scottm:

ps: Mrs Crawler will be registering and becoming a member this month..

ok.. took the wheel off and mother nature flourished me with a summer shower.. it felt good and it pissed me off at the same time.
The driver side pad looked 1/2 worn. i didnt have time to check the passenger side.. so my question is this
Are ABS brakes on a XJ really mushy? Avon doesnt have ABS and its half mushy compared to the Rubi with 4 wheel disc ... Mrscrawler seems really mushy..
Called Adam to investigate...

seems as though the ABS system has a glitch.. i have to figure it out.
Adam was kind enough to describe the abs system to us and we re going to have hook up an obd1 code reader or something to figure out the abs system
Anyone have experience with abs?

Mark

yeah it sucks but the bigger u-joints are the bomb and have taken it out of all the jeeps i have owned that have had it. .02

I fxed it for you. :)

is there a write up on converting the abs to non abs?

mark

Lol, Look at AVON, then make new lines that just bypass the ABS crap. I doubt that's the problem though. A malfunctioning ABS unit shouldn't cause a mushy pedal. Sounds like a worn master cylinder or air in the system to me. I am not trying to convince you to keep the ABS, it sucks off road and can actually make you not have any brakes when you need them. I would ditch it for sure, I am just saying that I doubt that's causing a mush pedal.

Hey Ghost, the big u-joint axles rock! But, it sucks that the only rear axle available for an ABS Jeep is the Turdy-Five. Maybe they figured that since they were giving you a crappy rear axle they should upgrade the front. That way if it ever got used off road it would give you a better chance of getting off the trail when the rear end broke! haha.

That is some funny stuff right there. :laugh3:

at first glance I believe it to be more related to the electric booster setup than the actual abs controls, but we will see next weekend.

we ll its for the wifey... she ll go offroad with it.. but i dont think she ll be going with the big dogs.. but who knows..

you should take Avon and the new XJ to the Crawl :)

avon is not ready for any crawl...
new xj would rub like crazy on the body..
rubi might be the one going to the crawl..

Avon is rolling on 31" street tires right now but i m planning on getting 33s from ls2's jeep

I have never gotten it that hot before so I don't know. However I didn't run the A/C in town either.
I found the paperwork from where I bought the engine and sent it to you.

Sorry Dave.. its my ignorance in the gauges.. it was at 220.. not 230..
Today:
6 new bosch copper plus plugs
new wires
new distributor cap and rotor.
new air filter
new elbow fitting for the fuel vacuum line
pulled the fuel injectors off the rail. cleaned the crap out of them.
New o rings
cleaned the throttle body. There was a layer of crud all over the insides..

it runs 5x time better.
on the way back from Atlanta saturday the jeep was bucking and surging..
took it back on the highway after all this .. ran super great no surging.. imagine that.

2" shackel rear
fixing over head console
we got some hella 55w fog lights
02 sensor
ripping out the AB-Death and going to non abs..
4:56 gears
aussie front

all in due time
I ll take pics as i go.. if thats what you alls want.

That D44 is the SEC slut everybody's getting a turn... I think you'll be the 5th or 6th...

I'm pretty sure that the FPR vac fitting and .070 plug gap were 90% of your problem, the remaining being CTS dangling loose (not actually in a coolant port) and lack of HO2S wiring.

I'm off to pick up my $50 HPD60...:spin1:

PAP next weekend right? I might stop by and check on that Eaton.

Yes PAP next weekend for my birthday..
anyone have a set of front TJ flares?
