Project: Hellride. A 1978 J-10

rear is a c&c 14 bolt with discs, trussed, pinion skid, shave cover, n junk.. i got the c&c because i wanted to tuck the tires into the fenders, but it appears i could have done it with a fullwidth axle as well. may wheel space it.

the axles have factory 4.56 gears and rear is spooled. front will probably get a lock-rite for now.

Tons of people going for the last minute before NACfest lol.

Do you think you really need to slide 2x6 in there? Especially if you plan on caging it? Maybe just box it in?

i was originally gonna box it in. but with 2x6 i figure i can box it in, wont have to cut any metal, and make my existing frame thicker.

i was only gonna do around 1/8" thickness

whats the travel on the FOAs from the XJ? wont fit up front? and what valving 7100s? you need some serious shim stacks to keep that pig under control.

foas are 10". at ride height with the stock mounts they wont even reach fully extended.

i could easily get a 16" shock in there lol.

im not racing it yet. and i already have 14" 7100s 255/70 valving.

itll be hella better than 98% of trucks this size that run white bodies.

werd. some 16" c/o billy steins are in your future

when its linked. not on leafs fool. there is so much room to work with on this truck its amazing. i could fit pretty much anything i want under there.

I've been finding this on my new project as well. It's a nice feeling, huh?

XJ's are dumb to work on in that respect.

we have seen the light, yet we both are amoung the most active members on an xj specific forum.

I love working on my FSJ just because of all the room. Only problem i have is its so wide and tall now i have a hard time reaching things in the engine compartment. Need a darn step ladder just to check the oil

You can use a regular 14b w/drw hubs on it and it might be what you're looking for(width wise), either way it's coming along nice and should suite your driving better than an XJ did.

i already have the disc brake brackets welded in and everything together. im fine with hub centric spacers on a full float axle.

have everything stripped from the frame in back, more than this pic. leafs and mounts are gone, bumper gone, axle gone, etc.

metal run tomorrow then time to start cutting.

Not working right now?

What leaves are you planning on running out back? Can I sit in it at NAC-fect and go 'vroom-vroom'?

not working? im not gonna chop the frame til i have metal to sleeve it with.

leaves are up in the air. probably gonna be a decent amount of experimentation going on before im happy with it.

2x6 box tubing fits the inside of the frame like a glove. i bought 16 feet of it for $120, should be enough to run along both framerails and make another crossmember.

going to slide the back half of the frame over this

had to get creative to get the rails to line up again. when i made the first cut into the frame the rails snapped about an inch inward.

this is the ugliest side, spent about an hour or so trying to line up the framerails perfectly, and this is as good as i got it with my patience level. its close enough, and everything else measures up perfectly, so i welded it up

going to make another weld pass, then flap wheel it all smooth.
