Project Geosynchronous Orbit

In terms of finishing higher in the list, how much has to do with the vehicle and how much has to do with driving?

Has to do with both.

Top finishers had some nice suspension as in tuned coilovers/bypasses and bumps, but they certainly know how to drive (Tim Smoluk from TR Motorsports 2nd overall and Timmay from LII 3rd overall for example).

Having all the car in the world doesn't help you if you don't know how to drive.

I was disappointed as well.

Not sure yet. Possibly some 2.5 smooth bodies for the front and 2.0s for the rear.

Can't really afford to drop too much coin at this point.

i've beat up my jeep at a certain legal offroad area trying to keep up with another line mtn guy on a trail that may or may be used for competitive off road race events and never got my 2.5/2.0 hot to the touch. i think that combo should do you fine, i would try and mount the resis on the shock like a piggyback if you can, my resis get pretty warm being in the front fenderwell. i know chris had his under the hood and had no problems though lol.

I think you're forgetting that I don't have inner fenders anymore so there's a ton of airflow there

But yeah I think at least 2.5s for the front and I could probably get away with 2.0s for the rear. The leaf springs feel pretty good with the weight back there (probably added about 160 lbs with the tire/tools) and the front wasn't terrible.

Gonna try and get at least shocks on for the next race and maybe rig up some pickups for my current cell configuration. Not 100% set on what I'm gonna do about anything at this point.

ya, and your rear end is probably a little lighter than mine. axle side you're gonna be as tad heavier. i reckon you'll be more than fine with that setup... just get it valved all nice nice!

That rear bumper is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Did you have some six year old retarded blind lesbian weld that for you while they were drunk during an earthquake!?

So I bought some Profender 2.5 smooth bodies for the front, and 2.0s for the rear. I don't have them yet, but hopefully they'll be here this week. If so, I should be able to make the Line Mtn race on Saturday.

Had to redo the shock mounts all around in order to fit them. Sucks that I JUST did front shock mounts, but what can you do. Not sure what I'm gonna do about bumpstops right now, but we'll see. It will be ready for NACfest either way.

Front mounts are just some hoops welded to the plated frame.

Just clears the MC.

Rear I have to notch out the MJ frame in order to get the shocks outboard more (I feel like a TJ guy). Going to use the 3x5x5/16 shown to handle that. I'll be plating the top of the frame with 1/8" (frame is already 1/8"), and will make a shock hoop for that. Took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. I also had to chop up my beautiful wheel wells.

im diggin the funky frt hoops, not to hijack but whats the difference between the profender and fox shocks? im sick of bilstiens fading from just trailriding

Thanks, it was just easier than trying to tie into the coil mount. I'll probably add a brace down to the bumpstop tower from the hoop and maybe one to the bumpstop tower support tube off the outer fender tubes.

I don't know much about shocks as far as what's good and what isn't. I went with Profender because I've heard good things about them and they're not total FOA crap. I'm sure FOX is much better but it's all I can afford right now.

Finally got my shocks in.

Profender 2.5 12" travels all the way around. Should have them all mounted/ready to go by the end of the weekend. And then to test them out at NACfest starting Thursday.

mmm sexy

Busted out the rear shock mounts. Two tabs off the hoops and two tabs on the leaf spring plate. Should hold up (I hope).

Also forgot to post up pics of the frame notch.

NACfest 2013 was a blast, everyone should have came out.

Been doing some maintenance to this thing since the next Line Mtn race is this Saturday. The 241 cracked because my stupid 1/8" trans mount bent. Remade that with a poly bushing. Forgot to take pics. Got a new 241 and rebuilt that and threw it all back together. Also noticed a couple other things.

Sick bent high steer arm.

Now I need to make a spare tire mount. I have this stupid bald ass swamper that I want to mount because it looks awesome. Trying to decide between flat in the bed but sticking out, vs angled up a bit. I think I like angled up a bit. Makes it look more like a race car and I like to pretend that's what it is.

The only "problem" with the angled mount is that I want to be lazy and just have one piece of tube come off the crossbrace for the shock hoop to support it, but it would be at 90* from level and about 10" long. It would basically be trying to torque the crossbrace from the weight bouncing around. I guess I could throw another tube straight down and weld it to the bed floor.

You should definitely go with a fully sick side by side dual spare tire rack built out of tube with dimple died speed holes on all the gussets so you can pretend to be a baja racer.

Only if you can get me another shitty free swamper.

I got that on a tip from Anthony, drove 45min to get it were it sat in the back of my truck for a year as a spare before I gave it to you. Believe it or not, that was the best of the 4.

No complaints, it holds air like a champ.
