Project Geosynchronous Orbit

Axles geared, some quick pretty pictures of the rear setup and issue up front (forgot to snap some of the front complete).

ARB and 5.38s installed:

asp style complete weekend progress from above picture to below, :spin1: :

Cover installed (IMO, this thing is a work of art and surely beats my SOLID and BTF covers):

Here's the issue we ran into with the Yukon Spartan locker. Basically the pins fit down into one of the halves, but not the other. They are supposed to drop in and move freely so the locker functions. Poor quality control or heat treat likely caused the issue. 35min and some work with a stone wheel and we were back in business, but not worth the $21.57 (ECGS prices) saved over a genuine Powertrax Lock-Right. This was both of our 1st experience with Spartans after having many with Lock-Rights and I wouldn't purchase one myself after this.

Dropped down, not sitting in correctly:

How it is supposed to sit:

Good weekend, glad the gears/lockers/bearings are done.

am i missing where the springs go? very confusing design to me

They go under the pins (the pins have a hole in the underside). The wire sticking out the side is to hold the pins down for installation. Rather than the springs in one half and the pins in the other (lockright) the pins and springs remain on the same side of the Spartan.
At 1st glace it appears to be a direct copy (especially installed). There is very little difference between the two. The side gears and cups are identical looking (didn't compare measurements to say for sure)

That second picture just reminded me to add a lubelocker to my 60 list of stuff I gotta get. How was it doing the ARB install, did you end up using my extra carrier for setup? Looks like I gotta rethink getting a Spartan now, at least the price difference is not a big deal.

ARB wasn't bad at all, just had to be careful of the copper tube. Setting one up is only a few extra steps. Lubelockers sure are nice.

Thanks for the update Bill! I just unloaded everything thanks to Adam and my dad for help.

Yeah we didn't end up using your carrier Ross, got the ARB setup pretty quickly. Basically one full day per axle. Even bench tested the ARB and it locks up perfectly.

I won't be buying a Spartan for anything else, the quality is lacking big time.

Lubelockers > RTV. 'Nuff said.

ARB Cover > every other cover IMO.

Also, that third pic is for Billy. Note the no oil tape

I had the same issue with the pins not seating all the way in my Dana 30 spartan. I couldn't even get the supplied wires to fit in the holes for installation. I ended up using bobby pins for retention during the installation. Now the front end pops and jerks like crazy when turning. Probably shoulda sent it back for a different one before installing it...

that cover is ugly

and that lubelocker will be useless after a season of wheeling

/poop on your thread

my axle can't physically take a lubelocker anymore. it was fun while it lasted.

im using some white rtv that comes with volkswagen oil pans.

its actually holding up pretty good.

usually black rtv leaks after the first time out wheeling banging my rearend off rocks

maybe if you didnt run a lame cover your axle wouldnt be as chopped up as it is

give me a not lame cover and lets see what happens

it will hang down like 3/4" lower than my rearend

you already broke it, you lose. just like if you cage your xj youll just end up with a junglegym attached to some steel plate in a few months when the body parts fall away from the uniframe.
