Project Downward Spiral

still looks awesome. i'd love to wheel with you when you're done, but i imagine anywhere you'd want to go in that would be impossible for me haha
Thanks!
Haha... nah like I mentioned before I still want to wheel the "less aggressive" stuff (shakedowns) that and sometimes they have better scenery. It won't be all that "crazy aggressive" stuff all the time. As long as I'll have a safe place to park my truck/trailer I'll be game. I just want to wheel!

Haha... sounds good!
My goal is to have this done by late spring, but I'm not sure I'm gonna make it. Solely due to $$$ issues.

late spring of 2010? hahahaha nah man I think you can do it if you can get the cash, you've made a ton of progress already! looks even better in person.

I agree, I got my gears all broken in now, I just have to order some shocks. I want to see what this beast is capable of when its done.
Hell yeah man your rig is sick as well, looks kick @$$ in person.
I just got mine done as well...I need bumpstops!
late spring of 2010?
Stop this talk of finished rigs! It is making me sad... haha.

That is the biggest problem. T'was good to see ya man!

Now I gotta get back to work!

Curveball :(

Just found out the threaded rod I picked up last week is 1-1/4"-7TPI and not 1-1/4"-12TPI. Problem lies in that I just cut it up to make the adjustable part of the front arms. The receipt states 1-1/4"-12TPI so we shall have to see what happens...

People! Quit bumping this thread if you don't have updated pics! I'm tired of getting my hopes up!

Alright... updates in the order they happened:

Had some time and rebuilt and painted the RE uppers that will be used for my radius arm setup.

GreatLakeOffroad H1 Rock Rings came in:

Got the plate welded back in place and the holes drilled so that the stock trans mount now sat "in" and "on" the crossmember.

Then I sleeved the holes that are used to secure the nuts to the trans mount with some tubing. I wish I had DOM to use mainly to rid of the look of the welds on the HREW, but I wasn't gonna go out to buy some just for that.

Crossmember_Step3.jpg

Then I drilled and taped the stock nuts in the frame rail to 1/2"-13TPI. Next, mocked up the crossmember with the HD Offroad Engineering Unibody stiffeners to make sure everything fit up good. If anyone is keen enough to notice the standard washer on the trans mount... don't worry that isn't staying.

Crossmember_Step3_Mock.jpg

Ran into a small issue when I realized that the stiffeners didn't have enough material to really weld a nut up to them. So I knew I needed to move the mounts for the crossmember out about 3/8". I also knew that the crossmember would have to be angled at the end in order for the DPG skidplate I have to be used. So I stage four of the crossmember:

Then I test fit the crossmember to the DPG skid to make sure it would sit up there nicely. Almost like I knew what I was doing... :D

I know the question of the radius arm mounts is going to be asked, so I'll address it now. The plan is to build mounts for the arms on the crossmember itself. Being as the DPG skid covers the crossmember I will be taking small portions of it out in order to clear the mounts. I'm estimating two 3" x 3.5" retangles to be cut out of the front portion of the skid. It shouldn't have an effect on the strength as thats where it sits under the crossmember anyway. If that isn't clear, you'll have to wait for the pictures after I do it. ;)

That looks familiar... nicely done!
Billy

Haha... yup. I'll admit, I openly copied this idea from someone else's build. Like I've said before, I try not to and I really don't like copying ideas, but this idea was just to good not to. :D

Don't like copying ideas? :wierd::confused1

:D Billy

Maybe I'm missing something...
No, I don't like to copy other's ideas and builds. Granted there are only a few ways to do some things and in the end that all kinda come out similar, but I like the "uniqueness". ;)

Alright, so I've been going back and forth on what to do for tires all day.
I'm looking at a set of 39x1450-16.5 PitBull Maddogs. They seem to get good reviews and I'm pretty much settled on them as I can get a decent deal and be under my $1k mark shipped for the set of four. Everything else is over that though it would be nice to get a set of Pitbull Rockers or Interco TSL SXs, just to much money. Iroks are out after reading the reviews, no changing that.

The only thing that is holding me back on the PitBull Maddogs is the width. 14.50 is wide. I'm worried that with the stock spacing on the H1s, even with full-width D60s, I'll be eating tire all the time in the front when I turn.
Thoughts?

sx's are where its at...for a crawler ill put a tsl or if i have the change the sx's i really haven't run a better tire

Problem is SXs are a full $200-220 dollars more. :(
Thats a lot of 'change' to pull out of a budget that has already had its floor and roof blown out.

42 Irok comp stickies are where it is at ;)

(I am dying to take mine out some day..........)
