got a lot done today getting ready for the axle swap. picked up my new control arm bushings and removed the old ones, removed the steering links, removed the unit bearing and shafts as one, knuckles are off.... stopped at the BJs. ill need to get the right tool for those. when i pulled the shafts out there was a good bit of dirt and grime inside the tube, is this normal? i think i may go through and replace all of the axle seals as well, just for good measure. ive got almost $300 into this axle rebuild already... WHAT THE EF!? but its good insurance, and should last me a good long time.

also, got the jeep driving. went back for round 3 on heating and beating on the stuck misalignment spacer. it eventually budged. ill still install the new one when it arrives. just feels good to drive it.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

dan, thatll cost ya.

stock steering, even with 4 blown out TREs it hasnt let me down. should feel really nice having all new parts. the axle came with full steering, so ill have a trail spare at least. 2 steering setups means that ive got 2 adjusters from the drag link which is the same part number as the one on the ZJ tie rod. so ive got 3 options really:
- find a ZJ tie rod
- buy something aftermarket
- sleeve one of these tie rods

none of which will probably happen any time soon. ill probably end up ordering the rough country tie rod and jam nuts when i get drop brackets.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

Hahahaha, Hey walt what year did you get the washer fluid bottle out of? I want to get an older style one for mine.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

Not when the guy in question gets everything for free or nearly free.
hey now, luck has been on my side lately. im not going to fight it. maybe i need to hit the casino or something. but woman are hardly free! while we are being honest, i get most of this junk from dan... that and the MWC, i never check CL anymore.

Hahahaha, Hey walt what year did you get the washer fluid bottle out of? I want to get an older style one for mine.
idk the exact year. was an early model. i should have done a write up, but its simple. pop out old motors, do a little grinding and make yours fit. fit the level indicator. mount it. the hardest part is rerouting the wiring and hoses. no need to lengthen them though, as there is plenty of length as long as you keep it on the drivers side fender. mine is by the master cylinder.

just hit the JY and do some looking. ive heard of people using bottles from a grand and S10s. though ive never personally seen either bottle.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

progress... all 4 ball joints removed. got my heim in the mail. got the axle seals. all i have to do is install them and then i can sand, weld on some home brew mini skids, paint, and rebuild! WELL on schedule to install the weekend of the 5th. :)

i thought this was interesting. the new one has noticeably more misalignment. more than ill ever need in this application im sure:

you can see my LCA mounts have gotten a little tweaked even with my mild wheeling. well, time to address that:

rustys t-case skid. this was the only feasable way i could see it being mounted. i need bigger self tappers though, i want 3/8 and all i could find was 1/4" at the biggest. the pilot hole i drilled was a little big and i spun one in the frame rail. story of my life... jacked the jeep up with the skid plate though. so itll definantly do its job. now, time for some rock sliders (and 4wd) and im willing to try and tackle some rocks!

also, my Ujoint at the pinion on the rear axle is loose again. im convinced the SYE is a necesity at this point. i know whats going in after rocks and valleys.

Yea right they are way to rich and prissy for that. I tried talkin her into a drummond trip after (her paying of course). Her response, "what's drummond?". Haha

I am gonna need sliders to!
