Project "Constructive Deconstruction"

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

I was thinking about making a turn down right in front of the rear tire. But decided against it as it'd probably get smashed on rocks.
That is what I am doing, so don't copy me. I am just going to get a shorter muffler and do a slight turn down so that is doesn't blow exhaust straight onto the axle. I might do a new cat if it is also shorter, to move the muffler and turn down ever farther forward of the axle, otherwise my exhaust will exit about 6-8" north of the rear axle. The turn down will be no lower than the muffler, so it is not likely to get hit on stuff. Now I just have to find a smaller bodied muffler that will actually quiet the exhaust some.

And by the way, please keep your cat. I have driven many vehicle with and without, the extra exhaust smell from no cat alone is enough to keep it, not to mention all the other benefits.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

i thought you were selling the jeep. ;)
Ha, maybe. I just need to find a replacement that is affordable, then this one might hit the market. And I have narrowed it down to some interesting choices, with top choice going to a 65-68 mustang for a dd. But I might never find one semi locally that I would want/afford, so it is still Jeep time for me.

Hey, if you bought my Jeep, then you would already have your rockers done and the front axle setup too, sure would be easier.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

I have not even decided to actually sell it, so I have no idea what I would ask for it. Ideally I could find a 66 or 68 stang and convince the owner they need a Jeep. That or a Land Rover.....

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

no problem. I have wednesdays thursdays and fridays off. I'm starting a poker league next friday, so fridays are bad .

i had the setup on my grand cherokee i had. loved it. i need to figure out something on my setup now. its just a turn down on the muffler. and im running 2.5 with no cat and flowmaster 40 so its loud as hell. need to figure out some way for it to EXIT the jeep.

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

Haha well flex you were right. Not in this thread by I exhaust thread someone was askin what kind if exhaust to run and I told him what i had and got yelled at lol

:roflmao: Told ya!

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

I don't understand why anyone would go without a cat. It's illegal, it makes sense to preserve the air, and the high flow universals aren't expensive or hinder your performance. Even on a trail only rig, you and your buddies are the ones sucking down the fumes while your putting down the trail.

Just my $.02

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

i see no reason to NOT run a cat... when i manage to replace my old rotted out stocker, it will have a cat. case closed.

went to the 311 and sublime with rome concert. this rome kid is no bradley nowell but its still good music. some of their new stuff is quite good. and of course 311 was great. good stage presence and everything. when the lights would shine over the crowd you could see this plume of smoke just wofting... and wofting... i suppose i have to drive my fork lift carefully at work for the next month.

been doing a lot of river floating. jeep likes having 2 kayaks on her. pictures to come. phone got some moisture on it today even though i had it in a good ziplock bag. now its acting all quirky. i said F'it and spent 6 hours at the shamrock bar in manton if you can beleive that. met a friend i hadnt see in a year on the river. did work... best fried green beans ive had in Mi too. i recomend them, and a $3.50 1/3lb burger.

drilled it out to 5/8" and install took all of 20 minutes. the mount measures 2" inside so i can reuse my heim and 2" misaligment spacer.

wow... that pictures makes me realize how haggard my parts are starting to look. lol. but then i ran into this problem.
284503_192905264097231_100001332774399_437192_180506_n.jpg

the misalignment spacer is seized to the bolt. it took a 20 ton press to even get this far. i bent a 1/4" peice of steel in the process. that som'bich was on there. this is whats left.
283358_192905274097230_100001332774399_437193_413223_n.jpg

i could probably remove the spacer from the heim just fine. but then ill still be out a spacer. with heat and soaking i still couldnt get the spacer off the bolt. im just going to order a new heim from ruff stuff this morning and new spacers. the heim took a damn beating thats for sure. and still feels dead solid. i think ill press the spacer out and keep it as a trail spare.

the plan is to follow this write up. but im missing some angle iron... weeeeellllll.... the free fairies must be looking down on me. we had some patio sets come in today that were on metal "pallets" with casters. i noticed it was all out of angle iron. lets just say it made it home with me. ;) ill have to do some cutting to break it down but ive got plenty. i would TOTALLY start it as soon as the sum comes up (its 5:28am) but really dont have the funds to buy the cutting blades id need. im still waiting on $100 out of $150 for the rims i sold a kid in good faith when i got my moabs. last time i do anyone a favor. if i can collect, and fill up the tank. i may start. also got to pick up my UCA bushings today. they arrived yesterday. cant drive the heep until monday when my new heim and spacers come in. so right now would be AWESOME timing to do the rockers. oh well, what can you do... right now would also be awesome timing to add control arm drop brackets. but alas, i am a broke college kid.

my lease for my mount pleasant house/apartment is all payed for though. :)

this project might turn out something close to awesome after all. ;)

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

The 1" and angle are not needed. You can weld directly to the sill and the pinch seam. Your rockers are in good condition like mine were when I cut them out. the way this guy left the welds at the sill exposed makes it look like ass, make sure you put those skills to good use and clean it up with filler. I expect no less than this...

Re: Project "Something Awesome"

you said you didnt even brace it to the frame rail right john? im sure yours sees plenty more abuse than mine ever will.

now, my other question is about this picture:
IMG_4049.jpg

is thats what left when you remove the rocker from the pinch seem?
