Anyone wanna buy a boat? It's my brother's and he's trying to get it out of his backyard. It's a 53, needs a lot of TLC but could be real nice if someone with more time and money than him or I fixed it up. It also has the Mercury Thunderbolt motor.

Make an offer. He's eager to sell. Boat and trailer together.

Too bad that isn't a 76Anthony, I'd know someone who would be interested if it were. ;) good luck with the sale!

He says it needs a battery and I think the ignition reinstalled but the motor itself runs. There's no holes, so it should still float. :)
I'll find out for sure about the ignition tomorrow. The rear seats are reupholstered but not installed at the moment, I think the front seats are as well. He may be putting it back together a little further soon.

dohhhh just what i need, another boat....lol
those are solid as a rock hulls and if that motor was taken care of then its a torquey little thing...wish i had room for her, very cool old boat...

whats involved in titling a boat? ive never had one :dunno:
He's got the title to it, and it has a couple tags from Big Bear lake on it..newest was 96. As far as titling and registering, he thinks it should be just like getting a green sticker for a quad and then paying the lake fee. He's never actually had it out himself. Took it as payment from a lady he did some work for. She bought it for $2600 and gave it to him for roof work. EDIT: DMV boat registration Looks like you'll basically need to fill out the application, provide proof of ownership and you're good. I know GEICO does insurance for "powersports", to include boats. I don't know if it's required but probably a good idea.
Just got off the phone with him:

It's a 4 cyl, sounds like a bullet bike. He's cleaned it up and is painting the wood inside. Got it running today.
He's got another older boat that he's gonna pull some parts from to freshen this one. Like the rubber bumper around the edge and he might paint the top to match the trailer.

As it sits right now, he wants $600.

Ok, the boat has had some work done, it's been cleaned up quite a bit, just giving some updated pics. As far as pricing goes, I'm not sure exactly what he wants for it after investing time and money into fixing it up some, but I will pass all offers along and can put you in touch with him.

Keep in mind this boat is a classic! 1953 with a Merc 300 Thunderbolt hanging off the back.

And now for a couple videos of the engine running. It's a bit smoky, but keep in mind this a 56 yr old 2 stroke motor, and he was running the mix he uses for his bikes which take a bit more oil than what the boat actually requires.

This last batch of pics was taken from my cell phone so the quality is a little lacking compared to the originals...

If anybody knows more about this please post up. I know that Diamond Valley lake will only allow boats with fuel purchased in CA because of MTBE or some other chemical that is banned in CA. I am sure of this but the 2 stroke thing is something I have heard.
