Project: Blacksheep- 90 wagoneer, low wide, ugly

well. got some chit done today....

then i got some progress made on the front bumper.
welds are looking better as i go. need to clean more surface are i guess:

I usually clean at least 1/2''-1'' away from the weld with a wire wheel, or even a flap wheel. Cleans faster and better.

trust me, the winch cannot get any further back. maybe 1/4"-if that. i had to do some massaging as it is to get it in there. only other option would be some serious remodeling of the front end. i dont have the time for that with moab only 14 days away
You can it it farther back, trust me. :D

mounting it underneath or with some other cutting and fabbing - yes.
but top (normal) mounted this is as close as it gets. i had to massage the radiator support with a sledge to get it to bolt up. im about 1/4" away from the radiator. i could maybe trim the winch? but thats about it....

wish i had the time and skills to mount where yours it. thats such a sweet spot and great clearance on the front.

replaced the balljoints today:

guess they really needed it. the PO of the axle musta not cared too much about maintenance, these were factory....

but its all good now :D

not sure how much is going to get done to the jeep now. appears as tho i might be calling Athens, GA my new home by mid summer. so jeep will probably be up for sale since im not much for mud oh full throttle assaults... :dunno:

Yeah remember that GA has some of the appalachians in it... there has got to be some good wheeling around there somewhere. Nothing as awesome as CO but still, it's not all mud.

I've got an XRC8 too, the series wound motor design (not sure, did they just use a PM motor before?) If it free spools real stiffly, open up the planetary housing opposite the motor and pull stuff out, make sure you remember what order and orientation everything went in in. Clean most of the horrible brown grease off and pack it with better quality thinner grease, then reassemble. Mine free spools great now, and I actually just swabbed some of the grease out, left a healthy amount and reassembled.

Just got back from Moab, what a blast. Slickrock is truely the best thing ever! Needed more time for more trails. Here are a few highlight shots from the trip, rest are in the CO chapter trip reports area......

Georgia has some good wheeling believe it or not, that's where I moved from 2 years ago and tellico isn't that far away and always good for a weekend trip, also check out www.southernjeeps.org it's a GA based club mostly wranglers but there are a couple of xjs
:)

that guys laugh in the first vid is awesome lol

sheesh, just did a quick rundown on whats in the jeep axle wise. as far as slightly below retail prices im into the axles just under $3500, WTF?!?!

I have 150 into my axles including gas to get em, spare shafts, lube, and gaskets and they go places people tell me they won't every time I go on a run :spin1:

Mike, looks good, does that price include having gears done, the tires, etc? Or just parts on the axles?

The price does not reflect what I paid for them. I rounded DOWN the prices from vendors/randy'sR&P to get the prices. As far as install/housings i just used average price to have a "local guy" do them...
Here is how I figured it....
FRONT AXLE:
HPD30 -$150
4.56 gears -$265
Yukon Alloys -$650
Solid Diff Cover - $80
Spartan locker $250
1.5” .120 steering - $300
Installation -$ 150
Truss -$100 (needs install)
TOTAL = 2,245

REAR AXLE:
8.25 29 spline - $100
4.56 gears - $ 330
Powertrax no slip - $450
Diff Cover - $70
Installation -$150
Total = $1,100

Total in axles = 3,345 + spares

Im in the wheel tire combo about $800 but retail price is a tad higher.....

The only problem with Tellico is that it is closed, thanks to the fawkin' hippies in Asheville.
However there are plenty of other places to wheel in the south.
