Project 89 rose

how much did you pay for those warn lights?

Got a quick up date on the liberty seats. Got into tearing into it yesterday and i'm fairly optimistic that i'll be able to make the liberty brackets to fit in my xj while retaining the new electronics and motors that came with the liberty brackets. First a few comparison pictures.

I was actually very concerned that the brackets that hold the back of the seat on to the sliders would be too wide and that i would have interference issues between them and the tranny tunnel or the center console. But after test fitting it in my cab it won't be a problem at all. (also i'm sorry for the cell phone pics, it's all i had)

The brackets are COMPLETELY different from each other and unfortuantly it will take a bit more than moving the mounting holes to match the xj's bolts.. I will have to cut about 2" out of the middle of the liberty ones and weld it back together in order for it to work. But i'm fairly confident that that won't be too big of a hassle.

I wish i would've thought to take pictures of the seat in my cab but i didn't think about it.

Also, i finally got my KJ e brake cables modified to work in my jeep. I've been running around with no e brake for the better part of a year now. So what i did to get em to work was i took the cable and cut off about 10" of the outer sheath so that it will mount to the stock mounts for the outer sheath under my xj and have enough of the inner cable to reach the stock brackets that attach to the handle itself.

I took a cutoff wheel and cut a line on both sides of the cable so that the outer sheath could come off. Being VERY careful not to cut the inner cable. It was a vary precise job. But not all together difficult. (again sorry for the cell phone pics)

Photo0344.jpg

Put it in a vice to hold it in place for me while i cut. (strongly suggest using a vice)

Photo0346.jpg

Once you've got it cut on both sides the outter sheath should just come off in pieces.

Photo0347.jpg

Leaving you with this.

Once it's off slide the two parts of the outer sheath together and i used some scrap hose and some worm gear clamps to hold together the union of the two pieces. And you're all done.

You can see how much inner cable is now exposed.

Modified KJ cable next to a stock xj one.

Another update got a lot of work done on the liberty seat brackets. And figured out most of the wiring, or at least the wiring for the motors. It’s looking like the heated seats were operated by a separate module somewhere mounted in the cab. There is a switch on the seat, but the power doesn’t go through the switch… I’ll figure it out… (sorry for the cell phone pics)

Had to modify the brackets pretty drasticly… haha Ended up having to cut 2” out of the middle and moving everything in and weld it back up using some scrap tubing we had sitting around.

Then we had to relocate the mounting holes for the back rest out 2” to compensate for the 2” we cut out of the middle.

More to come on that later..

Little bit of a side note, got some new floor mats that i'm very happy with. They can be found here... http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQJeepQQCherokeeQQWeathertechQQFloor_MatsQQ19842001QQW24AVMF2TN-R1TN.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&gan=1&apwid1zF8ve5

They are cut to fit but are really nice. :D

Much better than the old ones!

I spent the rest of my day replacing the lower radiator hose, thermostat, flushed the whole cooling system and put my e brake cables in. But no one want's to see that crap, i know i didn't lol.

Hey, sorry it's been so long i've been doing mostly boring stuff like injectors and coolant system stuff.

So i did the zj brake swap a while back and so far have been unimpressed. So i went and picked up a Durango master cylinder and am about ready to put it in. Have a few questions first.

So i've been reading about the swap and people say it's a direct swap, does that mean that the fittings that are on my zj m/c bolt right up to the durango one? Or are they different sizes?

Also i got my e brake cables in and the fitment is perfect. But there's a hitch...

The e brake will only stop me from going backwards... In neutral on a hill from a stop they will not hold me from rolling down the hill at the same rate as with no e brake. But even in reverse they will hold me from moving. What the heck is up with that?! i've never heard of that happening before and i can't understand what could cause it.

Any suggestions for either making the durango m/c swap go smoothly, or my e brake dilemma? Any input is graciously accepted...

No body?

^Bump^

I could really use some help here...

Got the passenger liberty seat all mounted and such. :)

Just drilled four holes in the floor where the mounts were and did this to bolt the seat down with.

Just need to figure out the wiring for the heated seats. I was right about the heated seats being controlled by a separate module somewhere else in the cab, found it mounted under the drivers seat lol but i really need a wiring diagram to figure it all out.

Also got the rest of my interior all put in with the new carpet and headliner and everything and boy is it worth it! (I know there's tire tred on the leather, it was stored for a while sitting up against a spare tire we have. Any ideas on how to get it off would be much appreciated)

The work i did on the e brake cables ended up not being a perfect fit and i needed to modify the stock bracket for the cables to fit.

100_3668.jpg

Even with all the trimming i did the KJ cables are still REALLY long.

100_3669.jpg

I got pulled over the other day for not having mud flaps so i made some brackets, trimmed up some universal mud flaps i got from six states and threw em on, pretty happy with how they turned out too. :)

Ordered a handle isolator off ebay and i'd strongly advise anyone with a hi-lift to get one, well worth the $14

I also had some scrap carpet padding laying around the house so i threw it down under the rear carpet and on the backs of a few panels for extra noise reduction and insulation.

Could still use some help with this guys... Please

I don't have any advice on the e brake issue.. ...

but about your seat mounting.. its important that the seat be mounted to a brace/cross member. It looks to me like you just bolted it to the thin sheet metal. If someone was sitting in it and your jeep rear ended the seat would rip out of the floor. You could build your own cross member for the seat mount..

When you say cross member do you just mean like a backing plate? Also the seat belts are attached to the body, so i don't think there'd be too much force on the seat itself?... Right?

thats a sweet rig buddy

Thanks man :D

Needs some tlc still but what jeep doesn't!? lol

Also on the seat mounts - is that ungraded hardware? The seat bolts should be grade-5 or -8.

As for the marks on the seats, try saddle soap.
