Project $300 Daily Driver / Camping Rig

Ok so I need some help from you guys. I went to smog my jeep and it failed.... barely... It missed the first time by 3pts on HC at 15mph

So i did a few things. I swapped in 703 injectors, I replaced my AC Delco plugs with Champion Coppers. Cleaned my throttle body completely and properly adjusted my TPS. Also Seafoamed it twice. I notice for a few days the jeep smelled rich even after I initially hard reset the ecu for the injectors. I go back to smog it anyways and the results were astonishing...

I turned into a gross poluter instantly... not too freaked out about it, I quickly ran home swapped in my stock injectors and the jeep went back to normal. I smogged it shortly after swapping back and it put up the same numbers it did the first time

Anyone know why I was running so poorly with the 703's? I did get them from the JY and I didn't "rebuild" them i just used new o-rings. I also noticed my idle on cold starts was really bad and sparatic until it warmed up.

But my main problem is I am still not passing smog and its just barely not making it. I installed a new o2 sensor today and the "old" one didnt even look old... so Im wondering if I should replace my catalytic converter? I have brand new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil, distributor, tps, iac, cps and now o2 sensor. Im not convinced the o2 sensor will fix my problem. Im getting a new cat tomorrow though

I like the budget build, my current heep was 700$ when I picked it up in 08. Was stock, except for a newer engine, AR teardrop wheels (gross, ha), and almost new 235/75 Dueler AT 693s. The wheels and tires cost what I paid for the thing.
Been spending some lately, but overall my intention is low-price/free upgrades. Most expensive purchase for it since owning it is the 31" MTR-k's got too good a deal to pass up.
Dunno if I could do stock height heep again tho.

As far as emissions go, have you run any sort of cleaner through your fuel system? MMO, Seafoam? I hate the dyno testing. Glad I don't have to smog my heep, nor do dyno even if I did still. \
Maybe some 89 or higher octane fuel?

Nice! yea im hoping to order a 3" lift with in the next month or 2 at the latest... I love my jeep at stock height but im getting anxious for a little clearance.

With my emissions, I have run cleaner through my tank. I have ran seafoam through a full tank and marvel mystery oil through another full tank

I had simular numbers on my 91. Ended up with new o2 sensor and a cat. Good luck man.

check exhaust manifold bolts to make sure they arent loose. clean all ground very well. check ground at TPS as well. also, i run the xj for 30 minutes to warm the cat and I run 1-2 pints of acetone + 91 octane when I smog. burns really clean. I highly suggest some acetone and 91 octane

Never heard of running acetone before. Might give it a shot. Thanks for the tips man. Ill be going through things again tomorrow. I do have a small exhaust leak that seems to be coming from around my exhaust manifold... the bolts are probably loose like your saying.

Check your o2 sensor to make sure its working properly. Its running super rich and your cat may not need replacement. Search for cruiser54 and Ecomike's threads on Renix ground refreshing and other good tips.

I always do a full tune up + o2 sensor+ check(replace if needed) TPS with a multimeter. also the 91 octane + acetone has worked wonders for my rigs. I had to smog 4 cars this, they all smogged fantastically clean, like really crazy clean. I sometimes wonder how much cleaner the 91+acetone mix burns? I think I heard of the acetone trick on here a few years back or something. like a pint once a year helps clean crud out.

I usually do a pint or so.

Congrats on getting her smogged. What was the final solution that fixed her?
I am looking forward to what you are going to do with this truck.

I replaced the cat and o2 sensor. Passed like new party1:. And thanks man. Im getting anxious to start. I might be doing little things here and there. My main focus coming up soon is getting my Passport ready for the rubicon this summer than I can focus more on the jeep. lol it sounds weird that a honda (actually an Isuzu) is gonna be my crawler and a jeep is a my daily driver
