Progress on my junk

Thanks again for getting that busted vision blocker out of my vehicle. :D

Roller fairleads are really useless in the way we (intend to)use our vehicles. A roller fairlead is heavy and reduces approach angle and they are really meant for vehicles that will see a lot of winch use(i.e. "expedition" type rigs). If you're winching through miles of mud on a daily basis they have their place but for the type of wheeling offered in California they are not needed.
I have used my winch a lot and I've always used a hawse type fairlead, I've never seen the need for a roller type in all the pulls I've made.

cool good to know im always glade we have xperts on this web site that can help us amatures out. Thanks for the info i hope Eds install goes well today

It's in! Had to go to The JY to get a stock drive shaft though (I'll throw it on Sunday). I had the original extended 1 5/8" and the pinion on the D44 is longer than the D35 so it stuffed the slip yoke way to far in. It seems okay on the road but the first time I stuff the rearend it probably wouldn't be pretty. The Detroit locker and gear setup feels and sounds good (no whine) so I'm pleased with it Bryan C, we'll have to see how it does with me at the helm this summer. One down, one to go. The D30 is next up this coming Saturday getting 4.56 gearing and the Lockrite locker installed. Looking forward to testing it all out at Hollister on the 21st.

I always thought you could only use a hawse fairlead w/ synthetic line. :dunce:

they make cast iron hawse fair leads that work with either wire or synthetic.

the aluminum wouldn't take to steel line very well, id bet...

I had a cast iron hawse that I used with success with steel cable

Poor Ed, he leaves his junk in my garage and I start cutting it up...

Looking good dude. you should call dan at ruffstuff and get a good diff cover!! I would hate to be the guy behind you on swamp when you had to stop every 10 minutes to make sure you still had fluid in your diff if you had some flimsy stock cover! ;)

Judging by the rusty diff cover bolts I think he addressed that problem a while ago...

There will be wrap around corners and frame tie ins added.

Jes,
I just got a new rear bumper that requires the corners to be cut (like Ed's). There is a lot of talk saying it's better to notch and fold the corners up vs. cutting them. Personally I don't care. Waht ever gets the job done. What are your thoughts?

How do you notch and fold a corner that is smashed to hell? If they are clean and you can fold them up there certainly is a lot less welding to do.

Looks good, You have any more pic's of the bumper build? Are you going to add a
tire carrier & all the outher good stuff?

hey mr. ed & mark shark, let me know if you need any help welding & cutting.
i have mig, tig, & plasma cutter in my fun factory at home...
