Price Check On 89 Xj

Ok, here's the deal: I have an 89 XJ I've been getting ready to work on with the idea of putting on a 5.5" Rubicon Express Lift. Interior of mine is trashed, along with both axles (Unit Bearings shot up fron, bearings in rear shot as well). I have a D44 in the yard destined for it as well.

At any rate, I just test drove another 89'' that's for sale in my neighborhood for $3,800 asking price. Here's the specs:

89 4.0 Auto XJ with clean interior (has I think the Laredo package with gauges, power windows etc.)

Rubicon Express 6" rear springs

Procomp smei-6" front lift (has Procomp lift that I think was originally 4" with 2" spacers under the coils).

Confers-style roof rack

32" BFG MT tires (approx 50-60% tread)

1" Transfer Case Drop

New paint job (white)

Engine compartment needs some minor attention, mostly new valve cover gasket, etc. type stuff.

This is not the ideal wheeler that I was planning to build, but it seems it might make sense as a starting point. I'd want to put 4:56 gears and a locker in the back (use my D44). Wasn't quite so sure about the ProComp kit.

So whadda ya think? Good deal, or let it pass?

Go for it. It will cost you more to buy one and lift it urself. I bet your going to need a SYE in a bit.

really ? the guy your buying parts from is raping you then.

Offer him $2800.00 see what happens...

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinkin'. Figured I'd throw 4:56 gears in the front and build my D44 rear axle with locker and 4:56 and swap in later. I can use my existing brutalized Cherokee (also a 89) as a parts car since I just got through replacing all the worn giblets (CPS, plug wires, rotor, cap hall effects sensor, water pump).

Not exactly the front lift kit I choose, but suspect it will work fine for a while (I was planning RE 5.5).

The fact that it has a cherry interior is what's throwing me over the edge.....

I didnt relise this was in USD. Im in Canada..3800s a bit steep but a 6" Re lift with full leafs dont come cheap. Id offer 3000-3200 and see how it goes.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's the price range to offer. Cherokees keep there price pretty well up here. Real popular car with the soccer-mom crowd and all the snow. No doubt I could do better in Sac-of-Tomatoes, but the gas alone for a couple of trips to check 'em out would negate any savings it seems.

Thanks for your input.

FOR AN '89??????
holy smokes thats expensive, I dont care if its got solid gold leaf springs, thats way too expensive. I just bought a 98' for 4,400....

EDIT: Didnt realize you arent in the rust belt. Things are cheaper up here...

kbb list private party as 2100 for stock, so somewhere between 2800-3000 I would think would be fair. Probably have to change the shocks out, SYE....

Heres an example in Utah,

89 XJ, 8" skycrapper RR, 30/35, 4.88's, detroit/ARB, laredo, immaculate inside and out, strong 4.0 form a 95, 40k on whole drivetrain, used offroad, not abused, 35 MTRs with less than 5k miles.

I picked it up for 2500$

89 XJ limited, 9.5 rustys/RE/RK longarm, 30/44, ARB's, leather, turret (sunroof), 35 BFG's, good engine 200k miles +, traded for a POS 90 VW jetta that I had 700$ into.

Moral of the story is the 4x4 community is pretty dead right now and is a buyers market, atleast out here with gas prices the way they are, you not going to sell for anywhere near whats into it.

I agree offer mid 2's and go from there.
