power steering noise

the pump on my 89 xj with 4.0 L makes an whining noise, it was foaming the fluid really bad a few months back but hat has slowed but now it whines is replacement only cure?

I'd start off by replacing it. When they start to whine, they are damaged internally, or very low on fluid. Bleed the system before start up on the new one, to prevent damage.

Try Lucas Power Steering Fluid Additive. It might help.....and it's cheaper than replacing the pump.

when does it whine? mine whined at full turn, turned out to b leaking only had to replace a hose and its good as gravy
