I was able to post a soon-to-be-for-sale rig in the "NWC For Sale Section", but am unable to do so here. Any ideas? I've got an XJ that I will be selling soon. I am in Arcata, Ca now, and will be in and out of Modesto, Ca throughout the year.

Thanks,
Kyle

Well, as a broke college student, I can no longer afford to keep the sweetness I call my Cherokee. I am almost certain that I will buy a Samurai, and lightly modify it to fit 30's or 31's. I'd like to throw up a post to see what y'all think of my old rig, but don't know where to post it without pissing anyone off.

right here is just fine! we like seeing people's rigs, but try to limit the 'sales' talk to back channel.

Dont be afraid to come wheeling with us anyhow with the new rig... there are more than a few members that no longer own cherokee's who still enjoy wheeling in the sierra chapter with people from this forum... ;)

Not for sale YET, but very soon. . . . .
Hello All
Unfortunately, my rig is getting too expensive for a college student to keep filling up with gas. I figure if I got better milage I would not be opposed to going out and wheeling her more. I don't see gas prices dropping, so it's about time for me to part with my baby.
I was wondering what y'all would pay to get a pretty decent XJ. I'll give you the rundown on what I have put into her.

Some other cool things it has right now are a Cobra CB radio with PA, fire extinguisher, toolbox-drawer in back, Pioneer stereo with new infinity speakers and an 8 inch Bazoooka tube, and carbon fiber look alike taillights.

I am not sure if I should sell a stock rig with the lift, or include all the accessories with it. I plan on getting a Samurai for now (gotta have a 4WD). So some of the things are universal, like the CB and stereo. What should I sell with the rig?
It will be available soon!

How much would you offer?

I may have this rig for the Lost Coast run, so I want to meet up with some of y'all too.
FYI, the red one was my first cherokee, white second, now I'm poor.

it looks like you have spent quite a bit on it...

i guess I just wonder what the actual difference in price for a weekend wheeling at $3.00/gallon or $3.25/gallon VS $3.89/gallon...

I mean, the modifications to your jeep must have cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5000? add in the initial price of the vehicle, and you're quite invested in the hobby -

whats another $200 to go out and use it - really?

I like Phil's solution to the gas mileage 'issue' -
buy a Saturn that gets 35mpg when I drive it, or ~40? when phil drives it - drive that every day, and just use the jeep on the weekends out with friends...

you dont have to only own 1 vehicle...

Need Some Opinions

I've thought about getting a really cheap vehicle that gets good MPG's for awhile, but being poor to start with, and in college, I just don't see it happening. The rig makes a great DD/WW, but having all those great DD comforts seems pointless if she won't get driven much, i feel I might as well have a beater rig instead (no radio, ac, doors, ect). I've also considered a go-ped to get around town in (Arcata is real small), and that may still be a possibility.
I hate the fact that I might have to sell her, but the idea of getting 30mpg in a Samurai is very appealing. I'm at 11/16 city/freeway right now, and getting double the mileage in a fairly capable Sami seems worth it.
I'm in the middle of talking all this over with my wheeling buddies right now, and I figured I'd include everyone here in the debate.
Here are a few reasons why I might sell.
-All the wheeling around Arcata can be done by most rigs with 30's, and unlocked. This includes beaches, mud, logging roads and the occasional show-off at a miniRubicon trail. In the summer, I'll do a trip or two to Slickrock and LaGrange. Driving around a vehicle as modified as mine for easy to moderate wheeling on a weekly basis is kind of silly. I've only pushed her to the limits a few times. I've only "needed" my set up maybe 3-5 times. Furthermore, it still has stock axle shafts, the LP D30, no lockers and a short arm set up :nono: , so I still can't push my rig to the extreme yet.
-I figure for the amount of wheeling I do, and the type of wheeling (and driving in general), a Samurai would be more fitting (or an XJ with the Escape-Hybrid engine :laugh3: ) I'd love to be able to afford 2 cars, or keep gassing up my XJ, but I just don't see either happening. If I was to come across a better paying job, and was able to keep up the grades in school, I'd consider keeping her. But I feel that it is almost time to let her go.:(

SORRY this is long, but I appreciate those who read this in it's entirety.
