Posi lock ford

I have a 1972 ford f100. It has a 9 inch posi lock in it. The truck is being restored. The plates for the posi were basicaly not even plates anymore.

My question is with the right fluids, being a every day driver, How long do the plates usually last? Or is it even worth keeping and just putting in an open diff insted?

Also what is the main suspect for the rear end to slam and clang when going into gear?

U joints, followed by improper backlash

Rebuild kits do not cost a ton, and open diff rear ends are a pain

My dad's 74 went to the junkyard 2 years ago with a fully functioning non molested set that he swapped in in probably 1980ish, still working fine..........If the housing were not bent i would have kept that rearend..
