Plese help. insurance company thinks my jeep is old junk

i own a 1989 jeep cherokee. near spotless never mudded. no rust anywhere. california car that made it to ohio. i restored it to all original. garge kept. i treated like a collector car not a DD.

i was driving it on Sunday and somebody that was texting ran a red light and hit me head on. totaling my car. of course it was his fault and his insurance called it totaled and is supposed to pay me what my car is worth. the problem is the insurance people just see it as an old car. not a classic or vintage car. they fail to see any value in it.
they offered me 2,000
when i looked up the nada(too old for blue book) value as 15,000 in exellent condition 10,000 in good.

i am supposed to send things to support my claim that it is a collectable car that there is a market for.

when i try to explain to him that vintage 4x4 are worth money he kind of laughed at me.

so here is what i have ill post it below to support my claim. he said send him anything that says my cherokee or similar vehices are worth more than what he offered. can you fellow jeepers help me out to get enough money to fix my baby. im sure of anyone. you guys will understand that its not just some old hoopty.

send me anythng else you find that says my cherokee is worth more than 3,000. thanks for the help. i dont know where else to turn.

any add you seen an old cherokee sell for a good amount or ads/articles where they value vintage cherokees. anything will help thanks guy.

Umm...I hate to say it, but I think it may be worth more to you than to anyone else.

I think you may want to focus on what you spent on your restoration. How much did you spend rebuilding the motor? How much rebuilding the trans? How much rebuilding the axles? How much on interior reupholstering? How much on paint and body?

If you can give them receipts for those otems, they will pay much more...otherwise they see it as a 30 year old station wagon that they can find on Craigslist all day long for 3k.

You might try contacting Crist Clapper. He has an absolutely beautiful build thread in the OEM tech section on his XJ Wagoneer. He also has a restored FSJ. I expect he will understand your situation and he may have some good ideas for how to approach this.

They are called writers. Basically you are insuring for a set value, or upgraded sound system, winch, high dolor wheels, etc. This is all done ahead of time. Thats kinda why its so hard for dead people to buy life insurance.

Companies like Grundy and Hagerty insure vehicles based on appraised value...maybe they can assist you in a real world value and not one out of the insurance company's dirty lil black book of how to screw you good neighbor!

I would try to get as much as possible in a deal and keep the jeep...then get it fixed.
Looks very doable.

I got screwed on my 89 dodge daytona shelby the same way....just after I put new tires, clutch, rack & pinion in it.

These things are in a strange phase right now.

On the one hand, many have been used to being able to buy $500 XJ's for the last 15 years. On the other hand, due to the fact they've been so cheap for so long, there are few left that are in good shape like yours was, so the value of a well kept XJ is now going through the roof.

It's not uncommon to see them now going for 8-15K depending on their condition.

Show them comps in similar condition. Be realistic. Most people overstate the condition of their vehicle.

I think you could maybe get them to 5, tops. 10k isn’t realistic for a restored XJ. The market isn’t there yet.

It is bad that such cars are getting in accidents. This is the history of the United States. The worst part of this is that no one would like to buy such a car, and I don't think that the owners would like to pay some additional money for insurance. I don't understand why the cars that have been in an accident need more money for insurance in the USA. I have read some articles about this on moneyexpert.com and still don't understand.
