trying to go sat morning. for the sj/south bay guys pnp off montery had a half dozen xj's there. no 44's but lots of body parts. they all had hp 30 in them. and there were no fullsize 4x4's.... but that was yesterday.

A little OT, but would it be worth trying to snag some axle shafts out of a HP30 for replacement or would it not be a good idea to use used ones as spares? Or would I really be saving any money at all?

no because aren't hp 30's vacuum disconntected? 2 piece axles w/260 u-joints. be better to just upgrade to a 297/760 u-joint and later model 1 piece axle.

i have my old 260 as spares but i'd have to install all the vacuum $hit to get 4 wheel drive back.

running warns now.

my .02

Well I have a 95 with 297 joints but I've never (knock on wood) had to work on it so I honestly don't know if it's one- or two-peice. Is there a quick way to tell by looking under there?

edit: Yeah it's a once peice, from Jeepforum:

Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear - used 84-99 (some axles through 91 are vacuum disconnect, 92+ are non-disconnect, 89-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 95+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints)

Excellent, I need a rear hatch. BOTW took care of my 6 month old "new" one.

Maybe a hood for the tow rig as well.

I see a PNP trip on the way to Discovery Bay!

Grab me a hatch while you're at it, oh, and some doors and fenders too. :D

Yeah, you're on the list. I guess I'll be driving the pick-up to hold all this junk.

Which door do you need more, drivers, passenger, or both?

Your junk is junk.

It is really easy to get the Stockton PnP off of HWY 4 on the way there. Just a bit direction tricky as they are working the on thefreeway. Let me know if anyone needs directions.
Was out there last weekend. I believe there were about 10 XJs. None with 44s. But many complete interiors, engines (HO and nonHO) and other goodies.

There's one in Rocklin, on the way down the hill that I'll check first. Stockton will be my alternate destination.

I also hope to find a Ford kingpin 60, a Cadillac northstar motor, a 5.9 Cummins, and a 35 spline tera 60 rear.

I may not be able to get all of that in the pick-up, though.

The Camper Special is a tricky one to find guys, but well worth the effort. :laugh3:

Quite a list you have there Andy, don't be too disappointed if you don't find any of that stuff. If you do, you might feel like you have won the lottery.

Thanks for the heads up on the pnp Brett. This will probably adversely effect the time we get to the meet and greet though. :)

looks like you guys should just change the M&G to a PnP event with beer and dogs to follow.

Brett, you killed the M&G from across the country. :laugh3:

Thanks for the info on the pnp though maybe we can do both.

I always try to incorporate pnp locations with my plans if I drive down to the Bay or wherever. I had it all mapped out last weekend, but couldn't get to the 2 SJ pnps only the Stockton 1 with Dan.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to the PnP at all this weekend.

Friday was spent doing side work to fund the D44 front project.

Saturday was spent finishing up the side work and putting brakes on the wife's Jeep.

Sunday was spent at church and behind the welders mask. Welded so much that I sun-burned my left arm. Shoulda worn a long sleeved shirt...

2 sets of reclining 95' front seats, 1 set tan, the other set light grey. 1 very clean tailgate, 1 clean front driver door. Other small misc stuff. There were 2 95' XJ at pnp to chose from with some good interior stuff. The engines were gone. I turned my back to get a wheel barrel and someone stole my 2-1/2 ton jack handle extension I was using to get more torque on my wrench to get a gas tank skid plate for my bro-in-law and I also lost 4 round head extractor sockets. Oh well, you really have to watch your stuff at pnp, lots of ex cons and undesirables. There were a few trailer hitches on a few XJs that looked nice with the wiring harness mount. I didn't have to time to grab them though. I saw a few full with Ford 9" axles go out the door for $50-60.

Thanks for the heads up Brett. We should have a wrenching fest at pnp next time or meet at someones house to install a lift or some stuff. Wish I could have made it to the meet and greet, hope you guys had a good time. Thanks Don for grabbing the roll cage for me and Jon for giving it to Don, the check's in the mail. :)
