Performance software?

Does anybody know if there is any software out there that you can run on a laptop that allows real-time metering and changing of ECU settings for Jeeps. I have found software for ford, Imports and a few chevys, but nothing so far for Chryco stuff. For example, the ECU in my 98 doesn't really allow for an Adjustable MAP sensor like Dino runs to work out a better Air/Fuel ratio at different throttle positions and I would like to find a way of running an open loop at WOT as to not lean the engine out like the stock computer does in a closed loop setting. I am looking in to this now, so that why I build my stroker later this year over the winter, I can get the most out of it.

I know jeep has a nice little black box that allows for this type of changes and many, many, many more. Hell they can even change the way your gauges read., etc........but my buddy who's a jeep mechanic doesn't think it would be a good thing if one came up missing.

It requires quite a bit of reverse engineering to build something like that. I'm not sure there is the market to warrent it though.

What you might want to look into is a stand along ECU. On the cheap, something like Megasquirt will give you an exceptional tuning capabilities for the price.

Where do I find info on this MegaSquirt thing/system?

ok did, now has anybody used this system on a late model jeep ECU and what exactly needs to be done? Or will I be stepping into uncharted waters?

Im installing MS on a 93, but its probably the same as later models. I'm not done yet, but I will probably post a howto here or on JU once I finish. BTW it was a royal PITA to get it working right. I'm not done but i've spent countless hours researching and testing just to get where I am now. Of course I'm going to be controlling Fuel and Spark, if you just want fuel it should be much simplier.

Do some reading on their website to get a feel for what is involved.

As I've done more research I think that if I go with the Apexi module and possible monitor the entire system with this http://www.digimoto.com/ software I might be headed in the direction I want to go.

clifford and redline have a computer that is said to plug in to your harness and tune with the laptop. give lary a call at clifford. http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Fuel_Injection/Docs/ECU32_PROD_SHEET.pdf

I just looked into this, looks promising, has anybody heard of someone using it on late model engines, it looks like they have used it on early 258's and such. I definitely keep digging. I would love to have a couple of different fuel maps at my disposal, whether I am cruisin' down the highway, crawlin' or pull up to the stop light and feel like layin' a beat down on an import or mustang.

Larry tells me the guy at redline that developed the thing put one on his wife's late model jeep, stock, said it ran well, then he took it off so she wouldn't break the jeep. one of these days I'll be getting one, thing I'm worried about is the tranny holding up, the boys say with my motor setup and the computer they have, I'll be pushing 475 ft lbs torque

also bully dog is developing a chip if you will for the 4.0, it will have 3 or 4 settings but its still in the development stage.

That sounds good, got any idea on the pricing? I didn't see anything listed. And there is nothing wrong with 475ft lbs as long as you have the driveline to go with it.

some where in the 1200 range, I think, its been a while since I was talking to him about it, I'm not worried about the driveline, axles, or even the t'case, but the tranny is the third one and its acting like the last one now, and I'm supposedly only pushing 350 ft lbs and around 300 ponies

I run a MAP adjuster on my '98 TJ and it sure as heck adjusts the fuel--had it on a dyno and tweaked the a/f with it. I keep hearing from everybody it won't work with OBDII. Why would that be, and how do you explain mine working? :eeks1:

Because from what I understand, the factory ECU will eventually change it back to sorta factory settings. I could be wrong, but yes you will see initial changes, but I believe the factory will compensate.
