Passenger window switch not working

I briefly considered that this could be because of the lockout switch on the drivers side, but I'm not positive. Here are the symptoms:

Passenger side power window swith does NOT activate the window up/down.

Drivers side window switch DOES activate the passenger side window up/down.

The Passenger side door lock button IS illuminated with lights on.

The Passenger side power window button is NOT illuminated with lights on.

I wouldn't imagine that the lockout switch on the drivers side would cause the illumination light to turn off on the switch. The weird thing is that before I took the door panels off, it all worked fine. I pulled them off to replace speakers, now when plugged back in, I'm presented the issue described above.

Just wondering if you folks had any ideas?

I need to find a schematic to see if I am getting power to that switch, searched a bit, but didn't find one.

Thanks!

Broken door wire harness wires and failed door switches are common. A logical assumption is that a wire failed, or a plug is loose. Start by inspecting and testing the drivers door wire harness for short circuits and open circuits. Check all the wire harness plugs. Consider buying some used switch assemblies.

there was a link on how to fix this on here. I didn't mine but forget, had to put two wires together on drivers side kick panel

Yeah, this is a very common problem. I've owned 3 97+ XJs and they've all had this problem. If you google it, you can find the fix. It's something about pulling the driver's side kick panel and taking the brown and beige(?) wires and splicing them together. Not sure about the wire colors, but the fix is that simple.

Would anyone happen to have a wiring schematic for the power window circuits? I'm looking on Google, but cannot find anything that really helps.

Also, would that "lock switch" issue cause the light to go out on the passenger window switch? I wouldn't think it would, but was just wondering.

When you push in the lock out switch (disengage the passenger locks) it turns the switche's illumination off as well. Is it just the passenger switch that the light is out or all of them?

Your problem could still very well be the lock out switch. As others have said, it's a very common problem

When the lock out is engaged or faulty it will turn the passenger side window switch light out. I would start there. However, what about the lights in the back seat?

Hmm, okay, thanks for clarifying that the illumination would be off as well. I did not check the rear seats, that is definintely something I will check when I get home this evening.

Thanks for the information!

I had a similar issue on my jeep I noticed that if I wiggled the lockout switch the passenger window switch would light up and would work, I ended up getting another switch from the junkyard and it's been fine since.

Just to update this, I shorted the brown/yellow wires together, and the passengers window started getting power again, as did the rear windows. Sounds like it was that lockoutswitch as everyone said.

Thanks guys
