PARKING BRAKE CABLES (longer)

I just got a 98 xj with a 44 rear. The passenger side housing and cable assembly is way short. The driver side looks marginal for droop. I thought about cheating the 2 into 1 link box back but that still doesn't make it.

I did some searching and someone suggested 8.25 passenger cable.
My questions are.
Is the connection at the drum backing the same for 35s 8.25s 44s ?
What cable housing combination is long enough for 5.5 in. lift?

Thank you :wave1:

Magimerlin used E-brake cables off of a s-10 (I think) send him a PM and ask. I know his is way longer than is needs to be.

I just moved the junction block back 3-4" or so. No problem with everything reaching, or articulation. 'Course, I have a 8.25 and not a D44.

i put KJ e brake cables on my xj after i installed ZJ disks. i did have to remove some of the insulation and inner sping on it to hook up to the stock locations on an xj.

the axle end of the kj cables is the loop type for disk brakes. i have heard that yj cables will work and hook up to the xj without mods.

Yes, the connections for the 8.25 and the D44 are the same. I'm using 8.25 cables currently on my rear XJ44.

Good luck getting the passenger side cable new. DO NOT order from Partstrain.com. Terrible customer service. I ordered a driver and pass cable from them, got one, after 2 weeks, I called them back saying I still didn't have it. They said they would ship it out the next day. Another two weeks they said they would ship it out again. Finally I got them to tell me it was out of stock (apparently no place had it), and the people I talked to were all idiots. They were trying to get me to send back my drivers cable.
Hopefully places have some in stock now.

If you have the early model (up to about early 98) XJ with the centered brake cable attachment, read http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/dana44.html#ebrake and use passenger-side YJ e-brake cables.

If you have the mid-98 and later XJ with the unequal-length cables and fixture mounted on the framerail, read http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technica...upPbrakeRelocation/97up_P-brakeRelocation.htm

C8.25 brake cables aren't going to provide any advantage over the D35 cables from the same application.

Thanks guys.

I got a 8.25 passenger side cable/housing for $23 at the dealer.
I also had to get the link stuff in the box.
The length looks about a foot longer than the 44 cable it should work.
The driver side is long enough and with cheating the box back I should not have any problems.

Thanks again. :)
