I've learned when on the road to anticipate the other drivers move. Always assume that the other driver is going to pull out on you! Leave yourself a good space cushion, escape route and be ALERT!! As morbid as it may sound, act like they are all out to kill you.
When I said break it in hard, I dont mean go and ride like an a$$hole. Its been proven that rings mate to cylinder walls better if the motor is broken in hard. Use a road you know is not heavily traveled and wind it through the first few gears. There is a website that proves this theory, I'll have to find it later and send a link. I used there method on my 600rr when new. 10,000 miles later she still runs 10.50's at 130+mph all day long. Good luck!
