Out-of-state inspection for military

Can any of NAXJA's fine military service members tell me if there's a special clause for military for getting a vehicle inspection? My New York reggie is about to expire, my NY inspection is LOOONNNNG expired, and I'm stuck in North Carolina. NY reggie can't be renewed without a valid inspection. (No, I don't want to give up my NY plates and register in NC.)

Can I get a NC inspection and submit it with some DD form, or am I driving to NY this weekend?

You'll have to go to NYs DMV website and see what it says about vehicles that are out of state but are registered in NY.
I'm from PA, living in TX. My PA driver driver license is from PA with a TX address, my XJ hasn't had a state inspection or emissions since 2003. With PA I just had to send them a copy of my ID card(front and back) so they can keep on file. Hell I just renewed my driver license and its Valid Without photo.

I enjoy registering my vehicle in NM rather than PA. Much cheaper, no inspection, and it doesn't make me a target for the cops...they tend to be hard on "out of staters".
