Opinions on the best possible rock rails...

If your rockers are damaged, then cut them out and replace them with a 3x5 steel tube, cut to length, (I did the length of the door bottoms) boxed on each end. 3x5 gives you good steel back to the pinch seem, and fits even with the bottom of the pinch seem.

I'm just tossing this out there for people that didn't do rocker guards soon enough (like me)

Here's the difference. Clearance where the rocks are is what matters. If your skidplates are low thats a different clearance issue.

I heard he even used teflon spray or something on his rockers :D
 
Only if Lincolns not around. Otherwise its just asking for trouble.

Note the Colorado plate, it's a photochop. No one from CO has ever been off-road anywhere.

Any thoughts on the Warn Rock Sliders?
 
Like said earlier. If budget is an issue--Rocky Road rails are the way to go.
Made out of inner hitch steel, and cost <$250. I've dropped my body on 'em several times with now issues and there's that smooth slide when you rest the slider on a rock and drive on. With such strong steel, I still haven't started to grind through the surface. Only lost paint.

Who cares how strong the slider itself is if the whole thing moves up into the rocker? I would rather have it made of paper at that point so it gets ruined instead of the rocker. I don't understand how anyone can look at those pictures and still recommend RRO. Some of you haven't had any problems with RRO which leads me to two conclusions: Either you eventually will have a problem, or you don't wheel in *the type of places* places to really use the rockrail. Like Eric said in this thread (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46280&page=2&pp=15) all he did was climb a rock on one side and use the rockrail on the other. A rockrail that damages your rockers is a waste of money, however cheap it may be.

The RRO are far from the "best possible rockrails." even for the money. If I had my rockers fixed it would cost me a hell of alot more than I paid for the rails. Isn't that the whole agruement the always make as to why you should by rockrails?

LOL! That's why I'll probably be replacing my RRO's sometime late this year. (honestly, most of what we run doesn't require uber-HD rocker guards anyway though, unless you've got a shorty Jeep).
 
Thanks Jason for posting up about Martys new rockrails. I am definitely loving them and since I have the same skid as you I will be looking into them. Now I just want to see the extended version with tube. I like--------------Kyle
 
Well I guess this is the thread to ask if anyone has any comments on Kevins XJ Sliders. I've heard nothing but good about his ZJ stuff, but haven't seen to many people running his products on their XJs. Any comments? Strength? Durability? I need something to be able to survice Moab and the 'Con.

Exactly. Why have rocker protection if it is not 100% protective?

I'd rather run without and keep the extra 2 inches of ground clearance.

How about a package deal with BPE Eliminators and a set of tail light Eliminators ? Do the tail light eliminators still come with socks or paper towls?
 
URF makes the best rock rails without question. Now it's a matter of how much and how readily available they are. Check out pics of Crash's rig and you'll see what I mean. The rock rail, interior cage, and roof slider all tied together is a work of art. Nice concept there. Of the rockers readily available, the ORGS style is good. I have a knock off of this type from Andy/Sean and it is very well contructed and has worked good for me in my limited time wheeling it (2 Con/1 Fordyce trip last summer).

You are too late. Hardcore Anti-Hardcore Fabworks already has the patent. I've already forwarded this thread to our legal department.













Back to tech....... I ran RRO 2x2 rails for 1 year and had the same results many have already posted. They will flex into the rocker, as will most of the "rock rails" on the market. That design has inherent flaws.
