Operation Overcompensation

Thursday, Feb 17th

I sort of figured out what exactly was going on with the NEUTRAL in the transfer case. I had originally thought it was 'user error' but it turns out that the 2LOW shifting sector did not place the range shift fork and the range sleeve in the proper position when in neutral. It was a tad off so it gave me a little bit of rubbing. I installed the OEM shifting sector and the range shift fork and it all works fine but just no 2LOW

I will have to get TERA to replace the 2LOW and tear back into the TC here in a couple of weeks :rattle:

Here is the bad 2LOW kit:

Here is the range sleeve that was doing all the rubbing cause of the 2LOW kit:

Here is a pic of the newer updated TeraLow kit that is now welded (pic for Goatman ;) ):

Here is the final product that I will have to tear into again  . Ignore the washers as I need to go out and get a grade 8 bolt that is threaded all the way.

Tomorrow it is reinstalled into the XJ and the Novak shifter gets put in there. :D

Hoping for a test run this weekend

Today was......let us say frustrating.

Our very own Polish friend came by to help me out today. The original intention was to have the vehicle running today. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful due to the fact that we have the wrong TC part so the unit is not mountable. It is sad but another popular vendor sent the wrong part. :flamemad: It now looks like it won't be running until the following weekend.

On the good side of things, we got the beadlock mounted and the XJ is now standing on all 4 tires

On the weird side of things, we have established Remi's knob is bigger :wierd:

It's not the size of the KNOB, but how you use it. :firedevil

Got to love bicycle tools. This is a headset press. Comes in handy pressing in misc bearings.

A press, that's funny I use a socket and hammer.

It's alive!!!

The PROPER parts have arrived! The TC is all assembled and bench shifting appropriately! Even 2LO!

More news to come.

It moves! It actually moves. It goes into 2HI-4HI-N-4LO-2LO. The PART TIME light does not come on though :gonnablow (and the alarm quit working :dunno: )

No weird noises (yet). The thing stops now like a mother fawker. Tires seem to make less noise than the BFG MTs. Took it up to 35-40 here in South Pas and it seems to act normal. I may have lost a tad of steering angle with the 37s. Interested in how it will feel at freeway speeds.

Packed all the tools in it just in case so I could drive to work tomorrow.

Will report later with more info and pics

So let me get this straight, you're cruising around So. Pas. with a non-functioning part time light?

Where do you get your driveshaft work done, & are they any good?

It is the PART TIME 4WD light :kissyou:

I use stock front drive shafts and the rear (which I get fabbed in Compton) now I could use front OEM shafts now if need be.

The Compton place is just a cheap hole in the wall. There work is fine. Not the prettiest. All balanced. Next time we're out, you can take a look at my drive line.

Well, it made it to work. No vibes up to 75 MPH. Very smooth.
Everything seem to work out well. Too well. :wow:
