Probably not the 302 you want. It's an 85 Bronco EFI unit, the first year and attempt at fuel injection. Still a 302 but you're better off grabbing a mustang or explorer engine. Explorers came with really good flowing heads, better than the mustang.
David -- you want a late 80's/early 90's 5.0 out of a mustang. If you get serious I have some notes at work about what ecu is most easily adaptable, what electonics to avoid, what head/block combinations are ideal, etc...
I figured I'd come over and see some smack about Dutch's wife driving his new rig through what I had to pull rope on this weekend. Props on a great build so far and how well it did.
Haha, and with off brand 32's no less. But no Matt, I was perfectly fine leaving that on the other forum.
Yeah, there was a lot more rocks to drive over/through than I remembered from last time. Maybe because they weren't as noticeable with the 39.5's? I'm not sure, but it definitely seemed more like Spring Creek than Eagle Rock. Of course the fresh 1" or so of snow is what made it fun.
So I think my jeep is forcing me to do long arms. A few years back it was in an accident that damaged the front axle. Well after doing the lift I could feel a popping in my floor under my foot, kind of like the top on a Snapple. After putting the frame stiffeners on it went away but I guess I twisted the chassis up pretty good on ER as this morning coming into work I noticed it again. I'm thinking my frame rails integrity is a bit compromised under the lower control arm mount. Anybody have experience with a similar issue? I'll be doing front frame stiffeners too once David brings them up to me with my bender die. That still doesn't reinforce the control arm mounts though. I'm thinking my best bet is to long arm it and plate over the frame after I cut off the factory mounts. It just sucks because I really wanted to stay short arm on this one. I think it helps keep the front and rear suspensions more balanced. Anyways, opinions??
Hard to say if that popping noise is from the accident or not. My brothers Jeep pops a little bit on the passenger side...but usually only if the control arm bolt is a little loose. Tightening it up seemed to make it less noticeable. But his was also in an accident before he bought it, so it may have something to do with it.
Although, a buddy of mine...his Jeep popped like that too until he switched from the standard bushings on the control arms, to flex joints. Those alone made all the difference in the world.
The main reason I like the long arms isn't necessarily for the flex, but the smoother ride. Those short arms seem to be a tad rigid at times....but still perform great if you have some flex joints on them.
I'd double check you track bar and make sure you didn't loosen something in there too... that "snapple" sound is what mine always sounded like when it had some play...
dutch you could reinforce the lower control arms like the lower control arms on the MJ's. they tied the bracket from behind into the frame with a triangle plate. I noticed that noise when I went from my MJ to the cherokee. or the metal sleeve in the control arm is worn out.
Well I didn't hear the popping sound on the drive home so I think it might have just been the front lunchbox making noises, I only heard it in the parking lot. I'll keep lating the frame and see what happens.
On a brighter side I did get the 4.56's installed in my 8.25 tonight. Tomorrow its the D30's turn.
