delayed my lift kit install by over 6 hours. holy carp. on my 84 xj, i got the stuff for my 4.5" lift nice and cheap, and decided today that i was going to put it all on. WRONG! every bolt on the back of the jeep came off like butter, until i got to the driver side body mount leafspring bolt:explosion!!!
this bolt came out of the threads nice, but was seized into the metal bushing in the leafspring, so i had to devise a plan to get it out without cutting anything. needless to say, it was a pain in the arse, and took 6 hours. the story behind how i did it is so long that i don't even want to put it in this post, and only in later ones on this thread if someone is actually interested, lol. anyway, in the process of getting that bolt out, i smeared the threads of the captive nut in the frame rail:explosion:explosion. so after another hour or so of trying to get a bolt to clean those threads, i finally notched a bolt to make a tap and GOT IT TO THREAD!! then the welds broke on the captive nut, and it started spinning. awesome. so i get above it under the back seat with a hole saw, and find out that there's a box there with the nut inside, and i can't even cut the bolt and just put another nut in there, so after another hour of trying to figger out how to get around that, my buddies helped me to decide to just cut a hole from the bottom of that little box, cut and replace that bolt, and just put another nut in from inside the hole. holy freaking moose pee.
so after all that, the rear half of my lift is done. i wonder what nightmare awaits me tomorrow when i try to finish it up, then drive it to jackson, tn to pick up my used tires.
assgas: i'm thinking that with my NP207 tcase, and my front driveshaft that was custom made to replace the old cv knuckle style shaft that was there, i'm going to have to go without a front shaft for a little while. it has a flange like a ford 8.8 on the front instead of a yoke that i can put a double cardan joint on. oh well, at least it'll look cool.:greensmok
