On Board Air

I mounted my york next to the AC compressor bracket. I could have kept the AC but I have an extra alternator for the OBW there, but the idea is the same. I used the pully jeeperjohn mentioned that has a V-belt and serpitine setup on it. Kilby has them, I went with the overdrive pully to make my OBW and OBA run better at low RPM.

I did have to move the battery, there is pritty much no way around that.

I'll post this up again, its been awhile, maybe someone tried it!!The late TJ's mount their A/C compressor on the drivers side bottom!

I believe you can install a York and keep your A/C. This is what I plan to do. The battery will have to be relocated, I will probably put it in the back. The bracket for the York mounts to the top of the existing A/C compressor and mounts the York where the battery was. You install a dual pulley on the alternator that has a serpentine as well as a v-groove and that's how you drive your OBA. Which ever you decide, good luck and please post up about how the install went.

Yup, I have a York OBA setup and I still have A/C. Got the bracket and pulley from Kilby. Put a 2.5 gallon Viair tank in the back. And moved the battery to the other side with a Mean Green tray.

I like it a LOT better than my old CO2 tank.

Yorks are the way to go. I have done many york setups and they put out way more than any electric can do. I wouldn't say 10 cfm though. I have mine mounted next to my a/c and my battery in the back. A 2.5 gallon tank above the rear axle.
I have used my compressor for:
airing up tires
running an impact
air ratchet
grinder (need a little trottle for this)
float tube
air matress
bike tires
balls
air horn during the parades
blowing out the back of the jeep

I have changed many tires for people on the side of the road. Takes about 2 min. start to finish. You realy cant go wrong with a york.
Here is a picture of the one I just finished for someone.

I have more pictures here on the site too some where.

Again thanks for the ideas with the YORK, but i will again repeat im not interested in replacing the A/C Compressor (i want my A/C) nor am i interested in moving my battery.

However, jwtrapper...

Do you have more pics of your tank mounting? Im very interested in this, as i would like to install my tank under the Jeep.

Thanks

No that was the only one that I had. The tank is a smaller one that was on a elchepo 110 compressor that I scrapped. It is mounted on the drivers side above the rear axle where the rear seat is. I just marked 4 holes drilled and filled them with bolts. On wranglers I used some strap to mount the tank.
This was my YJ. There was a little more room under it. Thats a 5 gallon tank.

What were your costs on that? I have the compressor, I need everything else.

I have a York with a 2.5 gallon tank mounted in the back, and I still maintain a factory air conditioner. I love the york, VERY high speed. A very good bonus is to tap into your O2 sensor with a single pole/single throw switch so you can shut off your sensor. This makes the computer think the engine is cold, and idles it up to about 1200PRM, dramatically increasing air output.

I also am able to run impact wrenches and air nibblers off of my OBA. While airing tires, my compressor is not the bottle neck of the air system

My Jeep is not at my home right now, but if you want I will post pics as soon as it returns (tomorrow)

I would like pics of your York setups... I have a York I'm working on right now, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to mount it and what pulley I need on the alternator. I will probably move my battery over to the drivers side in place of the airbox and I'll come up with a better place for the intake.

Ok well here is a pretty cool thing I did to run airtools with an OBA A/C compressor. I had both bumpers front and rear made out of round pipe wiyh the ends capped off and then had one female airhose disconect fitted at each bumper, airlines from the compressor supplied air to the tanks (bumpers) with a one way check valve in the lines to prevent the air from running back to the compressor while not in use. for running air tools a little longer we had an old propane tank that I welded bungs in so that I could also put airline fitting onto and hook it in series with the other tanks and there youhave air storage capacity. worked real well

JW do you have any pics of the brackets you used or did you buy a kit from someone? That looks very nice.

Really? I think I read something somewhere similar to this where it was mounted lower. Any more info? Pics?
I did have some pics, but they are gone now.The TJ A/C mounts just below the poower steering.

I don't have any pictures of the bracket off of the jeep. I used a piece of I beam and cut it to make a short T. Turn the short T counter clock wise and that is my bracket. I used a spacer for one side of the a/c compressor and slid the bracket under the other. I then bolted everything down with some longer bolts. The pulley that I use is from Kilby, this is the only place I found that made what I was looking for.
