on a 4.0 HO should I run a dynomax turbo muffler or a flowmaster 40

I never liked the flowmasters Ive had them on the jeep and firebird. I also tried a dynomax and it was better than the flowmaster IMO. I prefer the magnaflow overall though. Its really just personal preference.

As stated: Flowmasters suck at flowing and can be droney(haven't heard the 50 yet); Dynomax has a nice tone when broken in, but are aluminized steel so can/will rot, but can't go wrong for the price; Magnaflows are SS and the performance curve deal with the tailpipe is $20-25 more than on-rebate dynomax. Talk to performance curve 1st, cause you might end up with the 2.5" system and have to adapt it at the cat-muffler junction.

gotta have the flows....

Damn Bubb Rubb, beat me to it... But it's only in the monin', I musta been up cookin' breakfas o somethin.

On topic, I was pretty decided on the Dynomax Super Turbo. I think you guys have me leaning toward the Magnaflow now due to the SS construction while still retaining a fairly mellow tone. Flowmaster was never in the equation for me. I want my exhaust to sound nice, but I really don't think everybody else should have to hear it too. I'm just not that guy. Maybe I'm getting old...

Definately go with the magnaflow then. I have a turndown on mine before the axle and it's louder than most because of that, but it has a nice wubwubwubwub at idle and roars when I mash the throttle. It behaves itself while cruising on the street or the freeway very well, no loud drone. It really doesn't get loud until you get up to 3500 rpm or so. Kind of the best of both worlds I think, but that's just my personal opinion.

I will add that mine sounded tinny for the first 2-3 weeks of daily driving it, but after that it settled down to a nice deep tone.

Magnaflow is nice but I wouldn't spend that kinda money on exhaust if it has the potential to get ripped off while off road. I have the Dynomax Super Turbo and just sprayed it with high heat paint to make it last a little longer in the salt belt. You really can't beat the price.

I just bought a Dyno-max super turbo muffler yesterday, I plan to install it once I get the transmission back in. Just an FYI guys, Advance Auto Parts carries them for $29.99

I took FreemansXJ's advice and tried both mufflers (since I had them both)

I tried the dynomax turbo... it was just TOO quiet... sounded all right, deep tone, just a hair louder than my stock Heap o' Jeep muffler, but way deeper

I went with the Flowmaster 40... the one I had laying around had the inlet on one corner and the outlet on the diagonal corner... this did not work for me SO I cut off the inlet face plate and welded in a new 1/4" plate steel plate with a centered inlet hole...

then I ran only a turn down (and the CAT...)

RESULTS... the flowmaster 40 sounds awesome... it is not too loud (thanks to the turn down and the cat still being in place) BUT it has an awesome tone! VERY deep and throaty!

this is the chambered flowmaster btw...

cab noise is increased but not too much... sounds great around 2000 rpm
